This may be a common scene throughout the basketball landscape. Each case is more drastic in basketball because everyone is in close proximity and indoors. Just got to roll with it.

Also, Cal is far more likely than some other programs to be honest with the public about covid testing.

No doubt there are programs where an athlete has tested positive but the team either says nothing or says the player has an unspecified injury, and everyone else keeps on practicing (and playing games, if the season has begun) as before.

I have always worried about opposing 300+ pound lineman in each other's grill. I think the NFL is covering things up.

Well at least no one can get injured in practice, since they are not practicing. :.)

Like this isn't going to happen a ton to every program across the country. Fall and winter = rising rates of respiratory infection - colds, flu, COVID, whatever. You're going to have a lot more of this in the November-February time frame than you did August-October. Every single year, same thing. People go inside, warm/dry air, poor ventilation, co-mingling and like magic disease spreads.

Appears the test that one player had showing him "positive" (no adverse feelings) was a mistaken test, the player has had 3 successive tests (more coming) and all have been negative. Practice will be back on very shortly.
Berkeley/county have strict policies, which in some instances (safe than sorry) are overboard. Players were separated in living conditions and are very eager to be back practicing. Would help quite a bit, if Hyder gets the waiver to play, as he gives the team 2 different looks at point.

Does anyone know which test Cal is using? I just had a PCR test (thankfully negative) which requires 2 or 3 days to get a result. I've read the faster and cheaper tests are less reliable but I think all of them have been rushed into service before the accuracy is well established.

Students and staff on campus are using the home grown UC Berkeley PCR test, which they are allowed to have once a week. My guess is that the basketball team is also using this test (though perhaps at a different frequency), but I am not certain.

By the way, the rapidity of the test results in days has more to do with backlog than with the speed of the test; if processed immediately, PCR can give results in 5-6 hours. I had one in June that provided results in 8 hrs.

I'm guessing hoops is doing something similar, but I'm not sure.
