If the members that make decisions within the NCAA have ever had a shot to be rational, sane and good human beings with integrity, this is their chance. Too bad it may take a pandemic to do it, but I would take it.

Joel Brown might be the odd man out, dont you think? The more players eligible the better chance teams can field a team during these times.
Go Bears!

brown's time would drop, but his defense will get him prime time PT

Cal should just play Hyder now! Let the NCAA scream, and try to sanction us.

They are arbitrary and malicious.

It would have helped if we had Hyder tonight.

In that case, wouldn't we forfeit any game he played in? Not fair to the team.

LOL I guess we have 3 hours for the NCAA to give a dramatic waiver exemption by 9pm central. That's about as likely as Trump leaving the WH with class and dignity.

Just let him play anyhow. They will look like bigger a holes if they force us to forfeit

Has anyone seen Hyder practice with Cal? If so how does he compare to Brown and Foreman?

Most folks in power are "arbitrary & malicious." Human condition...

Just how influential is the Oversight committee????
helltopay1

Did a little research..if the d1 council is structured to rubber-stamp the recommendations of the oversight committee, look for Hyder & everyone else to play this year. If the Oversight committee is merely an advisory committee, without real powers, their recommendation will probably be turned down.
if Hyder can play, Cal is suddenly a factor this season.., and a positive factor for recruiting..

Hyder would become the second best player right away..Betley would come off the bench..

I thought he was a point guard?

I would imagine he would be the starting scoring PG right away with Betley at the 2. Foreman and Brown would come off the bench.

Is he that good?

combo guard..Averaged 9 points and 3 assists his true freshman year. shoots 83% from the free throw stripe. 38% from the field..Much needed this years and in the years to come..I'm guessing he would replace Betley..foreman is more athletic than Betley..

I don't think it's at all clear yet where Hyder fits in. He looks like one more halfway decent player on a team filled with halfway decent players. I think the original plan was that Brown would be better by this year and the others would provide backup minutes to him and Bradley at both guard spots. Betley is sort of a 3.

We need Betley for the shooting. He can shoot downtown from anywhere with quick release.

based on his freshman year at Fresno State, Hyder is more half-way decent than the other halfway-decent players

hyder could play 1 or 2. betley better shooter than foreman, but not as athletic.

Hyder is not a better 3 point shooter than Foreman. They are fairly equal with Foreman having more range.

We have enough shooters. We need play makers. Matt is the only real one. Makale seems like the only other one remotely close. Did you see all the length and play making ability of seemingly the entire UCLA roster? Well Hyder would be one of those guys:

I hadn't seen that before. thx for posting.

looks like he's a little shifty, he uses hesi moves, change of speed, step backs, but not just to shoot, but to get his defender going the wrong direction so he can blow by them

unless you are super quick and athletic, it's tough to blow by a D1 defender which is mostly what our players try to do. Hyder doesn't look that athletic, so he's put in the time to improve his handle, and that enables him to get to the hoop. In contrast, Brown looks more athletic, but because he's not shifty, he's usually 3 feet away from the bucket when he drives, and so has to take that running shot off the glass. High degree of difficulty.

of course all these moves are MUCH more effective if you are a shooting threat, either from deep, or pull up, and he demonstrated both in these highlights

Interesting that with these highlights, two are against Cal ... one showing how he uses the step back to setup his drive
