They sure did. Kuany should play more!KoreAmBear said:
Somewhat similar game as USF but I love how we don't give up when we're down. Kuany and Joel took big steps forward respectively, today.

Good to see better defense in the 2nd half.

So you guys think it was a bad idea to take the Bears -12 ????
Lars is strongly dunking. Better than before but still not able to get a rebound.OdontoBear66 said:
Kuany definitely needs to start and play more. He is at times our of control ala Joel but seems to get better with playing time. How he got the ball up so quickly on the baseline drives was surprising. Speed opposite of that of Lars. Brown needs to have some plan of what he is doing before he cannonades into a drive. One third of the time winds up with nowhere to go---no pass, no shot. I really want to see Hyder play into shape. I just don't understand the playing of Lars---he is 7 feet, but plays like he is 6'7"at best---no hands, no air and worst of all no positioning for Offensive rebounds.
Can't wait for Bradlley and Anticevich back teaming with Betley, the three guards and Kelly. Kuany can sub in and play that 8 man rotation. Lars can play in Welle time.
Hate to carp on the guy but Fox obviously sees something (I hope its potential) that I don't. The hands are so weak that he is cleaned out up high and down low. He also should never put the ball on the floor. And as I fully admitted he did have a very good game against CSUN. But other than his 7 feet there is not much there. He certainly doesn't discourage small guards from driving the key for they know they can juke him with speed. Whenever he goes near the 3 point line on defense, disaster is imminent.oskidunker said:Lars is strongly dunking. Better than before but still not able to get a rebound.OdontoBear66 said:

At 6'9" 194 KK plays taller than Lars at 7'0", 248...
I'd say the same for Kuany (and Thorpe). The more they play this year the more they'll help us the next two years. I suppose Fox has to dole out playing time based on how he expects them to take advantage of it.Quote:

Played too much of the game....He is a soph....He will be recruited over if Fox survives...Right now, Thorpe looks to be the better long term, but not there in the "now"....Having played BB until 52 and never much on the scene, I will assure you (and I really hate the negative, but it is reality), that Lars minutes will go down or Fox will be gone. We need a good recruit in the middle.....Patrick Ewing just wrapped up a to[p 10 class with Mitumbo and Mohammed.....Took him three years but futures are bright at Gtown. Lars is not the future but futility at Cal.89Bear said:OdontoBear66 said:Hate to carp on the guy but Fox obviously sees something (I hope its potential) that I don't. If having Lars in the program is going to be beneficial in his junior and senior year, then he HAS TO play this year! This team isn't making the tourney this year. You have to play with at least some view of the future. Obviously you want to win as many games as you can this year. I imagine Fox is trying to balance these things.
I think the shots are coming from just a few people. I do not like negative criticism about college athletes who are giving their all, seem to be great guys, etc., but we also have to look at the program moving forward. So I think going with Thorpe right now will serve us much better in the long run. KK showed us what speed with fast hands, feet, arms, and legs can do. It can also get us some TOs in the short term which is true of him and Brown. But players like that are my preference as I feel that as time goes by they mature. You cannot teach fast.HoopDreams said:
not sure why people are constantly down on Lars. Yes, he has poor hands, and his defense needs improvement, but he is playing an important role on this team, especially with Grant out. He shot 2-2 FGs, 2-4 FTs, 3 rebounds and only 1 foul. I see the issues people complain about. For example he had 4 TOs which is bad, but he has also rebounded the ball cleanly the last two games. There are also several 7 footers in the Pac12, and he's gonna have to play a role to try to slow them down.
there will likely be plenty of times to dis Lars vs Pac12 teams. I just find it odd that people take so many shots at him after two solid games
Hey, for the first time in his career Lars came up with a contested loose ball today! Progress!HoopDreams said:

yes, quicker, but he would have really helped defend when they had multiple bigs on the floor, especially ones that could shootoskidunker said:

Re Kuany, you've said two things here: That Kuany should start, and that he can sub in. So which is it? I like Kuany, but I'm not sure he is a starter, and if he the starter, which position would you have him start at, and who would he replace?OdontoBear66 said:

SF, you are right. I got started in one direction wanting PT for KK and then ended up subbing him in. It is the latter but while Bradley and Anticivich are out would love most of the PT going to KK.SFCityBear said:Re Kuany, you've said two things here: That Kuany should start, and that he can sub in. Re Lars: I don't disagree with your criticisms, but Lars plays in certain situations and matchups. We have no one who can start an go 30-35+ minutes at center. We need at least two who can play center, and one of those, Kelly is also the backup at the power forward. Kelly does not yet have the stamina to go 30-35 minutes, Thorpe may have health or injury issues, I don't know, but in any case he is a personal foul machine, and can't go a ton of minutes without fouling out. Kuany is more of a perimeter player like Grant, and I don't think he has the frame to go toe to toe with the wide bodies who usually play center. Enter Lars, in some situations for a few minutes. He has improved. Last time I looked he was leading the team in FG% at 73%. That is not chopped liver. It also looks like he has improved his free throw shooting to 75%, when last year he was one of the worst on the team. Now he needs to learn how to draw fouls when he has the ball. He is a project, but not totally useless.
Re Brown and Hyder: I agree totally, but I don't see Hyder beating out Brown just yet. Brown is shooting a good percentage, even with his poor decisions, and does a lot for this team, especially on defense. He gets enough assists, but is streaky in that respect. Hyder hasn't made an outside shot yet, I think. He is rusty, and it will take time for him to get game shape. I don't know yet if he will play more minutes than Brown or Foreman. It will be fun to find out. He is a very smooth-looking player.
