The great USF PG KC Jones, teammate of Bill Russell and with the Boston Celtics -- 2x NCAA champs and 8x NBA champs -- has moved to the higher ground.

1954-55 #1 Dons ( 28-1) -- USF 84, Cal 62; (loss to Ucla).
1955-56 #1 Dons (26-0) -- USF 33, Cal 24.

Great defensive player in an era when great defense and a bit of offense could win a lot of games. Those USF teams were also memorable in that the core players were from the immediate Bay Area or Northern California.

KC and the Dons won a then-record 55 games in a row. KC was also an outstanding quarterback for Commerce High School, and got a tryout with the NFL, despite not having played football at USF, which no longer had a football team by the time KC enrolled there. He won 12 NBA Championship rings, 8 as a player with the Celtics and 4 as a coach.

I had the great privilege of meeting him in a pickup game. By many accounts I have read this week, he was a great human being, always trying to make others happy. He will be missed by many players and fans alike.
