CPWBB Overall 2021-22 (PDF) - Cal Poly (gopoly.com)
Cal Poly and McNeese State are probably the two weakest teams on Cal's schedule. Cal Poly is 1-6 although most of their games have been competitive. Nationally ranked Louisville visited San Luis Obispo and thrashed CP by 40 points (72-32). Since the Bears meet the Aggies in Berkeley, I'm predicting a 30 point victory (90-60). I would like to see Cal improve their defense for conference play. I'm hoping that Cal can hold Cal Poly approximately 10 points below their average, winning by 90-50.
This team is similar to McNeese State which Cal defeated by 42 points. I was happy with the offensive output but the defense yielded 40 points to the Cowgirls in the second half. Oregon played McNeese on Monday night and crushed 'em by 71 points. The impressive part was that the Ducks held the same opponent to 38 points.
2021-22 Women's Basketball Roster - Cal Poly (gopoly.com)
Cal Poly has three talented players that carry the load, playing 26-32 minutes per game. They have eight contributors that play significant minutes but they don't have much experience. The stars are junior PG Maddie Vick, junior SG Maddie Willett and fifth year grad student Kirsty Brown, a 6-3 post. Brown is an alum of Amador Valley HS. A freshman SG, Sydney Bourland, from Archbishop Mitty-San Jose books the next most PT at 18.7 mpg. The other rebounders are 6-2 SR Scanlon, 6-1 JR Nielacna (Poland) and 6-0 RS FR SG Dumitrescu (Romania).
Cal Poly (see stats above) is not a good shooting team as measured by FG%, 3 PT% or FT%. This is one reason that they are outscored on average by 12.7 ppg. They also are not good ballhandlers, averaging 12.5 assists vs 19 TOs per contest. I would like to see Cal pressure this team to practice their full court press, their half-court trap, etc. Statistically-the Aggies are not better than their opponents in any category. GO BEARS!
