Heidi Heintz Joins Women's Basketball Coaching Staff - California Golden Bears Athletics (calbears.com)

It seems as if Heidi might coach the forward position. She did that a UCSD and was a good defensive player during her career. With Eliza Pierre and Heide Heintz I would like to see more emphasis placed on a strong defense. Welcome, Heidi!

I just saw that announcement. I'm wondering who has left the staff because Coach Smith can only have 3 Assistants. On CalBears.com, no changes have been made in terms of staff pictures/bios.

Yes-I forgot to include that question in my post. Thanks for your follow-up, SFCB72! Once we find out the departed coach-we can figure out specifically HH duties as an assistant.

"Fourth-year head coach Charmin Smith is pleased to announce the addition of Heidi Heintz to her staff for the 2022-23 season. "

It says nothing about Heidi being added as an assistant. We'll see.

In talking with her last Fall, she told me that her kids were still on the East Coast so they could finish high school there (and graduate this Spring). Too bad she's gone. Great person. Funny sense of humor. Very knowledgeable about WBB

OB73-nice detective work. Kelly Cole did a good job of improving Cal's offense last season. Of course, it did not hurt to have a frosh phenom like Jayda Curry. Heidi Heintz brings young blood (age 33) into the picture which can only add energy and a different approach. GO BEARS!

My comment about Paul Reed was purely a guess based upon what position group each coach (Reed and Heintz) had experience in coaching.

She seemed like a good coach and one could see improvements on offense. Her picture is still up on the roster sheet, odd she would be removed from one source but not the other?!? Or perhaps she was never listed on this list.

I am sure that Heintz will have something to offer. But looking at the average St. Mary's offensive numbers - 69.2 ppg, 18 TO's/game, I doubt that it will be revolutionary. Still up to Charmin to pull this all together.

I'm sad to see Cole leave because she brought previous head coaching experience to a relatively young coaching staff. She still has Cal in her twitter and Linkedin bio.

I met three St. Mary's senior hoops players who were about to graduate this week and asked them about Heidi. All three agreed she was a great coach and recruiter and always was willing to work overtime with them to improve their game.

They said Cal is getting a great coach.

Heidi is hitting the ground running. All four coaches are now out recruiting in various parts of the country.
