Does anyone here now if Cal is going after Kayla Padilla of Penn? She is from Torrance, has had great success in the Ivy, enrolled in Wharton, and, because of Ivy League rules, has to play elsewhere next year for a grad year...

I don't have any specific information on this particular player, but Coach Smith did say yesterday during a postgame meeting with Golden Way members that they will take a serious look at the transfer portal for immediate help next season. They are very pleased with how their current transfers (Peanut, Kemery and Claudia) have contributed to this team.

We also have experience with an Ivy League grad transfer (Jadyn Bush).

We do need to look for grad transfers or international players for next year. The ESPN Top 100 for 2023 are all now committed. Nine PAC-12 teams signed a total of 18 Top 100 players. None of them signed with us.

So who definitely will be gone next year vs who could play 1 more year for us?

I've been pondering this one myself. It's confusing because people like Leilani and Evelyn can opt to player another season due to the Covid year. I'm pretty sure Peanut will be done and think Jaydn is too.

Curiously. During Coach Smith's discussion of the transfer portal yesterday, she mentioned "one scholarship" to use and the need to use it with the most benefit - a player that can help right away (transfer) as opposed to one likely sitting on the bench (freshman). I'm guessing she may have used that purely as an example. Not sure if she knows Leilani's and Eve's future plans yet. Or maybe she does.

SFCALBear72-don't forget PG Karisma Ortiz is another transfer (from Texas/Penn State).

The only member of the team that is out of options is Peanut Tuitele (I think). I checked into this early in the season so other players may decide not to stay a "fifth" year to replace their Covid (2020) season. Both listed seniors, Leilani McIntosh & Evelien Lutje Schipholt, have a 5th year option if they choose to use it.

Also, how many games does one need to play in basketball to constitute a year of eligibility? In football, you can play up to four games without burning a year of eligibility.

It's a bit confusing...

People forget we only have 14 scholarship players. So we have one scholarship left if no one leaves. And that is because Jaz Green left. No one replaced her.

thanks...based on stats alone, this would be their biggest Ivy get, if in fact they are in the running...or, as this thread speculates, if there is even roster space...

I'd rather us retain everyone for next year (can you imagine?!) but woof, leaves the following year as a do or die type recruiting class.
