Women's Basketball vs California on 2/5/2023 - Box Score - Washington State University Athletics (wsucougars.com)

Washington State beat Cal by 10 points in the Palouse. The Cougars assigned Charlisse Leger-Walker to guard Jayda Curry and it worked. Curry could not get open for shots (only 2 for 8) and was held to eight points. Both baskets were three pointers so Jayda did not hit a drive (layup) or a pull-up jumper in the entire game. The star of WSU went off for 25 points, hitting 9-18 (50%).

Why is it that other team's coaches can come up with effective strategies to stop a star but Cal is helpless to do the same. If one knows that Charlisse is the key to the Coug's offense, how can Cal leave her unguarded on a wide-open three to begin the game?

Granted, the Washington State post, Bella Murekatete, was in foul trouble the entire game and did not score in double figures. It may different tomorrow night with how weak the Bear's post defense has been lately.

My point is this is an upset waiting to happen if Curry continues to utilize the assortment of shots that she has been using in the last two games. This opponent is easier to game plan for than most any other Pac 12 team. C'mon, Charmin, show that you can out coach another HC in our league.

The Bears played even with the Cougars for three quarters but were outscored 22-11 in the 3rd. This has happened most of the season. When is Cal going to make a statement that they will play four quarters up to their capabilities? Las Vegas sounds like the right venue to do it! GO BEARS!

This is going to be an interesting game. IIRC there was some question if CLW would be ready to play last time. Too bad she was because she killed us on both ends. This was a game where Karisma, Amaya and Claudia played (and matched up) well. Jayda and Leilani did not and had sub par games.

Jayda has been under par the whole season till the last two games where she looked like her old self. LeLani has been in a little slump the last few games. Not sure what is happening to her.
