Terrific news! Exactly what the doctor ordered: a big (6-4), consistent center that can rebound and score double-digits. She was the obvious choice out of the post players that I reviewed in the portal. Charmin Smith-this transfer gives you and your team a fighting chance to compete next season. HUGE GET FROM MY ALMA MATER, UCSB, & the CCS (Central Coast Section). Still could use a couple more additions so keep 'em coming...

Ila Lane has only played three seasons and sat out Covid year (2020). I'll await formal announcement to see whether or not she has two seasons of eligibility. Of course, it would also depend if Cal turns their results into a winning team or not as to whether IL would want to return for another year. GO BEARS!

This is indeed good news! Apparently Cal has a grad program in her chosen field.

It will be great to have another experienced post player since we've lost Evelien and Peanut.

Her numbers in her freshman year were astoundingly good, including a number of 20+ rebound games. Came back some in years two and three, but still very good. Best news is she took no three-point shots, so she knows she is a post and plays like it. Maybe she can work with Michelle on her game as an extra contribution.

With these two all-conference transfers, could we see a 3 guard lineup like this?

I would probably start Claudia Langarita (6-4) alongside Ila Lane (6-4). Michelle Onyiah is a burst of energy when she comes off of the bench. As Cal fans know, her energy can spark the team but she typically plays limited (12) minutes due to foul problems. I don't think that with that profile that she should be counted upon as a starter.

I think that is a very valid point. +1 to that as a starting lineup!

I agree with S71 about Michelle not starting, but that proposed lineup puts Cal at a disadvantage defensively.

I think the team still needs an athletic 4 from the portal. Also, let's see what Lulu will bring. Mia or Lulu could end up in the starting lineup.
