The Fever also picked up new players this offseason including former all-stars and veterans with playoff experience. Hopefully, the new additions will help Indiana go deep into the playoffs.

Caitlin Clark is really, really good, at least on offense. I'm curious to see if defense has become more important to her.

The WNBA season is back biotches!

Caitlyn Clark is a reborn Larry Bird and Angel Reese is a reborn Bill Laimbeer.
Caitlin Clark is a generational player and single handily captured the attention of the sports world, catapulting women's basketball. Her best skill is actually passing even though she's known for shooting (much like Curry is known for shooting, even though his ball handling and rebounding are elite).

Angel Reese is a generational rebounder. A lot of it is the pure dawg in her, and she has done 100X more tough fouls like that going for rebounds. She also flopped on that play.

The rivalry is good for the exposure of the sport (and now Angel's LSU teammate is on her WNBA team to add to the rivalry) and both will sell tickets.

But I get tired of Reece's antics

In today's matchup, Caitlin had 20 points and a triple-double. Angel had 17 rebounds and a double-double.
Caitlin's Fever blew out Angel's Sky by 35 points.

I agree, to a certain extent. And her name's spelled "Reese."

I appreciate both as players and frankly, they have what could be incredibly complimentary styles of play to each other. If those two ever got to play on the same team for more than just all star weekend (like last season's all stars), they could wreak havoc on the W.

There are other related things that bug me too. I have tired of the over zealous Clark Stans that are so aggressive about anything Clark. Making things worse, some of them exhibit racist remarks towards other players, especially Reese. So when I have conversations about those types of fans it feels like I am criticizing Clark, but I am not.

Conversely, I don't love some of Reese's antics and I tired quickly of the over zealous fans that exhibited racist remarks about Clark and dismissed her abilities as being common. Making matters worse they often defended Reese's abilities as compared to Clark, when clearly they have superior skills sets that are not the same as each other, so when I talk about those fans it sort of feels like I am criticizing Reese, when I am not.

Some things I would love to see:

I go back to my first comment, I would love to see Clark and Reese on the same team. That would be electric IMO.

I would love to see the Valkyries somehow score a generational talent like JuJu and bring them to Ballhalla (Chase). I realize with the current W rules about eligibility of college players it seems unlikely, but rules change. Ask the Warriors in 1985. The league would take 2 worst records (Warriors had the worst) and have a coin flip to see who drafted first. Patrick Ewing was the gem of that draft and boy the Warriors could have used him. But wait the NBA said, let's have a draft lottery and the Warriors fell from guaranteed 1st or 2nd pick to 7th, Seventh! Plus there was the whole frozen envelope so the Knicks would get the 1st pick and Ewing, but I digress. To be fair tho, if the Warriors had gotten #1, they would have picked Ewing. BUT, if they had gotten #2 they no doubt would have picked one of the guys that were picked 2-6 and ended up being either bad or ok, not great. So the Warriors got Mullin at 7th. Great pick up, prob better than if they selected earlier. Anyway, point is, I hope a change happens that benefits the Valks.

I would love to see Kelsey Plum get the offensive keys to an organization, wait she did, the Sparks, and went on to score what 37 in game one. I actually love the way she plays.

I wanna see Ionescou vs Clark in the 3 point competition.

I wanna Aja get a 30-30 game if she hasn't already.

Well, I don't think it's a reach that Clark and Reese would both be on the next Olympic team....

"Caitlin Clark (27-11) had her 10th career game with 20 points and 10 assists, matching Courtney Vandersloot for the most in WNBA history. Vandersloot has played 430 games; Clark has played 42."
YahooSportsAm

*I snicker when anyone suggests how good some of the players are. One player is literally 10 times better than anyone else. I apologize for this, but only the WNBA is only watchable for me if Clark is checked in the game.

Caitlin Clark is very, very good. That stat is very impressive.

But the WNBA game has changed dramatically in the past decade, leading many records like that to fall. Sabrina Ionescu quickly broke the triple-double record, and then it was broken again, and she is still a relatively young player.

And note that Indiana lost last night to Atlanta, a middle-of-the-pack team.

Also, please don't compare what you see with the Valkyries to the rest of the WNBA. That is a team that cannot score, and is just waiting to sign free agents in 2026.

Why is Atlanta a middle of the pack team? They have very good players. They shut down Bonner and Howard.

The general consensus is that Minnesota, Las Vegas and New York are the top teams.

Atlanta has a new coach (from college), a good player (so far) in Rhyne Howard, a very good post (Brionna Jones) and an aging superstar (Britney Griner) -- and lots of questions.

They might be really good, but Howard has to take a big step up and a point guard has to emerge.

Griner is only 33, made the Olympic team last year and still averages 18 points a game as one of three very good players on that team. They are a force to be reckoned with. Liberty appears to be the best team, but Indiana, Atlanta, Vegas, and Minnesota are all right up there. Atlanta's pre season rank was 5 of 13.

I don't understand why we have a continual thread devoted to Clark on a Cal sports forum. If this topic is popular with most of the Cal WBB fans here, perhaps there should also be a general WNBA thread as well.

So I'll start one.

Caitlin Clark is the gateway drug that brings in new followers to the WBNA and women's college basketball.

While the highlighted statement is correct, so is the first one above. This is a CAL website, and the Caitlin Clark discussion has become tiresome. My guess is that most of the posters here are basketball fans. It just seems that a post here informing us that Caitlin Clark is injured for at least two weeks is overkill. Most of us already know that, and even if we don't, really, what does Caitlin Clark's injury status have to do with CAL WBB?

I understand that I'm not required to read the thread, that is a valid point. I doubt that anyone reading about Caitlin Clark on the internet will end up here - there would be so much more to get through before ever getting here.

It just strikes me as strange that anyone visiting this site would be here to talk about CC when it's a Cal WBB site. I know she's a great women's basketball player, but still she has nothing to do with Cal WBB. I don't get it, but moving forward I understand I'm not required to open the thread.

With Caitlin Clark hurt, ticket prices for the Fever's next games are dropping from $80 to $20 per ticket. Home teams often move arenas to larger venues to host games against her. She is definitely worth discussing in a women's basketball forum, even if it is largely about Cal Women's Hoops.

Is the biggest college WBB in history more relevant in a Cal WBB forum than burritos?

That's a close call but if the burrito has sour cream and guac then the answer is no.
