What impresses me so far early in the season is that all five starters are shooting above 50%. Oniyah has the best at just above 62% (15-24).

Also, with the exception of Oniyah at just under 10 ppg, the other starters are averaging a very respectable 17pts,17pts,15pts, & 12pts.

It's only a four games into the season but still a really good and clean start.

This is a very nice win, especially if Gonzaga shows itself to be at its usual level as the season goes on.

But even if Gonzaga is down, going into Spokane and winning by 20 is a statement that Cal's a legit P4 team and midmajors should be afraid.

Shocky, so if Steph Curry was playing with Michele, and you were the coach, you would tell Michele to set no screens for Curry even though that it is how he scores his points. It would be more important for Michele to not foul out than for Curry to score. Same with our three point shooters.

I think after 5 years that Michele should know how to set screen.

She was only on the court for 11 minutes last night and we have no effective back-up against taller teams. After five years, we have to face the fact that she cannot figure it out.

She is smart enough. She set screens the first two games without getting in foul trouble.

Same way we wouldn't put a small guard under the basket as a primary rebounder, I don't think we need to put our foul-prone center out at half court or out beyond the top of the key trying to set a screen.

we are a veteran team with Michelle, Krimili, Marta, and Lulu in the top 6 from last season

Lulu has made a huge jump up

Then there is PG Williams. I didn't know she can shoot, even after watching her first two games

We don't have depth in the post which we will need when we enter ACC play (and against USC) so we at least need Claudia back

But this is the best team Charmin has had

SC will be tough ... they have talent, size and depth at every position

We don't play SC in the regular season. The men do. Tomorrow evening in LA!

As far as Michele playing the high post, it is much better offensively when we do. If you watch at lot of centers play then you notice they set the picks up high. If the defender goes under the screen then the 3 point shooter has an open shot. If the defender goes over the screen then the center goes on a roll (pick n roll) to the hoop. Michele will be going against much bigger centers in the ACC. As a staionary target down low, she is not much of a threat. But when she rolls , she is more athletic thn the center who defends her and she has a path to the basket.

I figure it is worth between 10 and 20 points a game if you do this correctly.

That is no doubt correct for just about everybody else. But no one can explain Michelle, and I am sure that Charmin can't either. In her junior year, Michelle averaged only 14 minutes per game and fouled out five times. In her senior year, she averaged only 19 minutes per game and fouled out 9 times. Anything that can keep her on the court is better than having her on the bench. We especially need her rebounding.

If you go back and look at the Utah game in the PAC12 tournament her junior year, she played a phenomenal game, and it looked like the light had turned on. But then it went back out again.
