I predict that Cal will triumph over Grambling, 85-65. The Bears just played their best game ever under Charmin Smith so I'm expecting a bit of a letdown against the Tigers. Grambling lost their two road games by 15 points to Nicholls State and 24 points to Tulane. The team from Louisiana has average 53 rebounds per game with their 6-5 post grabbing 7.5 and a 6-0 PF registering 8.0. I don't think that Cal will play a half-court game tomorrow night.

Grambling turns the ball over 18 times per game, but they force 20+ against their opposition. I can picture an "up 'n down" game played at a fast pace. GO BEARS!

Charmin said during the open practice that this game might be an opportunity to give the younger players more playing time.

I hope that they start scoring against this SWAC opponent. The schedule gets quite formidable after that...

I thought that Cal would be flat but Grambling is playing harder and faster. Bears turning the ball over and missing layups and wide open threes. The Tiger have been lucky that they have banked three shots in.

Bears played better down the stretch and shot a lot of free throws. Up by 7 despite a less than auspicious start.

Suarez has missed three layups-PATHETIC! Kayla Williams has four TOs at PG and all of them have been long passes over the top to our post players-either Onyiah or Suarez. She has to stop those passes.

Ackerman is the most fundamentally sound player that Cal has. She only got six minutes on the floor and grabbed 5 rebounds, blocked 2 shots and scored two baskets. Why won't the coach play her? It's nuts!

Bears turned the ball over 13 times. Auburn, Michigan State & Vandy or Zona will take advantage of this.

Ackerman replaces Onyiah in minute 3 of the second half and immediately grabs a rebound.

Glad that the team is aware of and showing that solid defense can help in every game even when the shots are not dropping.

Charmin has played 11 players in the first half including Maul. I thought Zahra King and Gabrielle Abigor looked good. I realize it is against weak competition but still good to see.

But after 3, Cal has 22 turnovers leading to 27 Grambling points. Smith cannot be pleased. Even up 23 points.

Grambling has 18 turnovers but Cal only has 15 points off those turnovers

I believe Ackerman has her per game minutes restricted due to prior (or lingering) injuries.

I'm watching on the ESPN app and it's the same for me. Video lags audio by about 3 seconds

Best outcome of this game - It looks like with more game experience, Abigor will be able to back up Onyiah this year.

I never leave games early but I did tonight. It was already after 9:00 with two and half minutes left. In many respects an awful game. So many fouls called and all those turnovers. Twenty-six by the Bears. I'm hoping the team got a lot of those out of their system before Auburn and tougher games after that. As was foretold Charmin played everyone and not just short cameos either. Gonna forget tonight and look forward to Friday.

the bright spots were our big 3 shooting the lights out and Gabrielle Abigor getting primetime minutes and stuffing the box score ... sweet free throw shooting too

extended minutes for our bench including first game for Giselle, and significant minutes for other first year players (I'm including Anastasia). A lot of sloppy play but the playing time is helpful to get more comfortable and adjust to the college game

Bears seem startled by pesky defense first quarter, but settled down. Nice to see everyone play and some for decent number of minutes...Good to rest starters quite a bit too. I loved it when Lola scored her first bucket, a three. The smile on her face said it all.

Decent number of folks on hand given the sloppy weather. Friday's game begins at 6 pm which I didn't know, but glad to discover.

Go Bears!

S-l-o-p-p-y. Ugly. Hope the Bears had all their TOs tonight and button it up on Friday.

But if Cal plays Friday like they did tonight...run for cover. I think (hope) Auburn will have Cal's attention given their performance against Oregon. Hopefully.

I thought Ackerman played pretty well. Seems to be in the right spots. Abigor played well. As the season moves forward I think she'll be an asset. I like her FTs - she shoots them high. Nice stroke. Michelle seemed frustrated because Grambling huge center was physical and was getting bumped around.

Guard play (ball handling, decision making) HAS to improve. If they just make the simple plays (penetrate/kick) Cal will compete because Cal can shoot. Lulu, Yo, Marta are pretty good catch/shoot players. Add Williams and Donez and Cal has several players that can knock down open shots.

The Bears look like they have pretty good chemistry - when Donez hit her 3, everyone was up. Everyone got to play - always nice to see. Even Bowes made a cameo appearance at the end.

Auburn looks to be Cal's first true test. I guess we'll see how the depth plays out.

Crowd count was 1153? Not bad considering middle of the week and the weather.

That's something I've always liked about Cal teams, and especially Charmin's: everyone is passing to and rooting for the freshies and those who've returned from a long injury. You could hear the same generosity from the fans as well.
