The Mitty Monarchs defeated La Jolla Country Day tonight, 65-40. Mitty opened the season sweeping through four consecutive days and a 4-0 record. Junior McKenna Woliczko was MVP and frosh Maliya Hunter & soph Tee McCarthy earned all-tournament selections. Sixteen teams competed.

Nike TOC finished Day 2 today. Archbishop Mitty barely survived against Clackamas, OR, 83-77, in OT. Eight-minute quarters in high school but these teams lit it up. The two national stars, Mitty's McKenna Woliczko (6-2 junior PF) and the Oregon school's Jazzy Davidson (6-1 senior SG) were unstoppable. The Monarch's half-court defense was weak and they couldn't use their full court press because Jazzy would break it by herself. Jasmine Davidson is the #3 player in the Class of 2025 (USC commit).

Tomorrow-AM (6-0) faces Mater Dei (11-1) of Santa Ana. They defeated a national power, Bishop MacNamara, MD, 53-49. If the Monarchs advance from the semi-final, they will likely meet Ontario Christian (12-0) for championship on Saturday. OC defeated Grandview, CO this afternoon, 88-70. Sienna Betts (6-4 P) is the #2 player ranked by HoopGurlz (UCLA commit).

Archbishop Mitty (7-0) defeated Mater Dei (11-2), 59-42, in one semi-final tonight. Undefeated Ontario Christian is playing in the other semi-final in the nitecap vs Bullis-Maryland. The winners meet for the Cannizzaro Division championship tomorrow night @ 6pm. Four games played in four days in the Nike TOC in Phoenix, AZ.

Ontario Christian (14-0) vs Archbishop Mitty (7-0), both undefeated teams, meet on Saturday evening for the national top spot. Ontario Christian has defeated both Etiwanda and Mater Dei by 8 points. They are ranked #1 and Archbishop Mitty is ranked #2. I don't know that the Monarchs can stay with the talent (size & speed) that this young team possesses. This might be the best girl's high school basketball team that I've witnessed.

Last season, Mitty KO'd #1 rated Long Island Lutheran, 74-73, for the Nike TOC crown. Tonight, the Monarchs played incredibly well in all facets of the game to dominate #1 Ontario Christian, 59-34. Ontario Christian was undefeated (15-0) and had averaged 76.8 ppg. Archbishop Mitty held them to 8.5 points per quarter! Hopefully, Archbishop Mitty (8-0) should be ranked #1 in the nation next week.
