Because its Xmas time.
To those interested ingoing to the Jason Kidd high school event at Haas today, a couple of things. The tickets are expensive. There are boys games played first. You are buying for the whole session. I wanted to watch a Cal recruit in the 5:30 game. And also the weather will be worse today. Don't feel like driving home in the dark, in the rain.
Great to win today. Finally hit on all cylinders. But it was amazing we gutted it out for the two games previously against tough opponents with Lulu in a slump. We are a very good defensive team. Krimili is probably the weakest member because she is not as fast. but even she does an admiral job. Our bigs can cover the perimeter. Witness Marta against Alabama when she guarded the point guard and held her down in the third period.
The refs let them play tonight. Really helped Michele play rough. Except for the last period when suddenly they got ticky tacky. but it didn't matter. Helped Stanford lose by twenty instead of thirty.
For those who have been coming to the games, you have noticed that the Straw Hat Band has been moved from center behind the basket to the left end zone behind the basket. In the past there was no one sitting there. But tonight it was crammed full of students. So I guess it was saved in the past for students who never came.
I have seen almost all the games except for the Idaho /state and Gonzaga games. And it seemed to mee that every team played man to man. And I thought that was because of Krimili. But Alabama played on possession in a zone. And that was when Krimili left the game and Lola subbed in. And sure enough Lola got the shot and missed badly. Well Stanford went into a zone again tonight in the fourth period when Lola came in. But even when Krimili came back we had a little trouble. My guess is we hadn't practiced against the zone much and we should be able to shred it when we do practice against it. Stanford usually plays man to man.
As Stu mentioned , why didn't Stanford press sooner. i know they don't normally press but all presses seem to work against us.
It was nice to drive to the game without the rain. It is bad enough in the dark at my age (I'm older than S 71). But those black roads get darker in the rain.
A shout out to the men's practice team. As i said before, they are the bet I have seen scrimmage against us. And i think they prepare us for good teams. Why more people on this site don't acknowledge, I don't know.
Lola is in a shooting slump. Watching her shoot about a 100 shots, i think she has too high an arc. Sort of like J Brown when she came to Cal. But Brown improved so there is hope for Lola. I just don't know if it is this year.
Looks like Noble has replaced Ackerman as the first front line player along with Abigor.
So last but not least, who is going to the game on Sunday? I plan on being there.
