Do you contribute to Cal athletics? I know you don't go to the games. But do you contribute?

wvit, u might wanna consider chilling out, ok?

s71 is very knowledgeable about women's basketball & his game summaries are accurate...he is a santa barbara grad who has an aversion to crowds so no he's not donating to the wbb program

cal wbb needs to grow the fanbase, maybe u should start a thread asking why there's nobody at wbb games despite the national ranked team starting with the abject failure of worthless bureaucrat markeisha everett whose actual job is brand/market/sell tixs, ok??

ur barking up the wrong tree with ur passive aggressive behavior

s71, looking forward to ur fordham game breakdown amigo!!

I do view him as a volunteer Bear Insider analyst. Not always in agreement with him, but do appreciate the effort he puts in.

There is a big push from the school to donate as it is expensive to run a program. One could arue that college sports are no longer feasible, but if you support Cal sports then someone needs to pay the piper. I have season tickets plus donate some. If I didn't support Cal sports then I wouldn't watch for free.

ur missing the point, why aren't there 10,000+ fans a nite at haas for wbb this season?

markeisha everett & jennifer simon-o'neil are PAID to grow the program & sell tixs

why aren't u sending them emails asking them what's their gameplan??...or ask their boss jim knowlton what's he's doing to collect his $1,300,000+ salary?...or emailing chancellor lyons why he's letting these lazy azz bureaucrats ignore ur wbb program?

Shocky, this probably won't surprise you, but a few weeks ago when you suggested that I email Everett and express my concerns about how the volume of the music at the football games might hurt attendance, the response I received was a generic "your email will be forwarded to our department" message. and of course, I never heard another thing from anyone. So my guess is that moving forward, any attempt to try to reach out to these folks is a waste of time.
Shocky1
How long do you want to ignore this user?
not surprising redless that worthless bureaucrats don't respond to sincere emails from their constituents, would suggest u email chancellor lyons with a carbon copy to knowlton advising that they are ignoring their fan/donor base

if markeisha everett is NOT terminated or more realistically demoted to berkeley enforcement duties then this season's dream season is gonna be kinda wasted in an empty haas, is that acceptable to u as a passionate wbb fan??

lulu is gonna receive insane nil unsolicited nil offers after this season...

I have emailed directly to Cal WBB a couple times, most recently to suggest they set up a presence on Bluesky...as an alternative to the raging bot cesspool that is now Twitter...in fact that would be a good move for Cal Athletics in general...I see sports teams moving in that direction. The team does a nice job with Threads, FB and Instagram now....

On another note I must say I'm impressed so far with the ACC Network and its digital promotions arm. They post a lot of good stuff about the ACC teams (including Cal) and are quick to offer highlights, etc that are disseminated widely on social media....so much better than the lame Pac12 Network....
Shocky1
How long do you want to ignore this user?
calwsf, agreed that the acc network is a massive upgrade over the pac 12 network which is good for nationally recruiting but won't really impact the gameday attendance at haas

it's productive ur emailing the wbb staff but it's also the full time job of the cal athletics marketing dept led by markeisha to grown the brand/sell tixs on gamedays, have u emailed her & if so what's been her response??

the problem with wbb is that until someone actually goes to a game & gets hooked with the FUN gameday experience & compelling likable student athlete players on the bears team just sending the cal fanbase a ton of emails with offers & **** re: wbb won't do anything, they just get deleted

read my post on the michelle thread re: what needs to happen to grown the fanbase:

attendance vs austin peay: 1428
it's a shame this team is poorly marketed by incompetent bureaucrats like markeisha everrett & the evil as **** jennifer simon-o'neil whose lack of innovation/branding is killing women's basketball (along with football & men's basketball too, tix sales are anemic in all sports), winning more games is NOT gonna bring new fans inclusively into the tent

cal wbb should be sold as a value play throughout the basketball hungry greater bay area (in conjunction with partnerships with the wildly popular/successful new wnba franchise which has NEVER won a basketball game) & a tremendous price friendly FUN family event along with a welcoming invitation to those that are not berkeley grads which requires months of community outreach/sweat equity PRIOR to the season (the current lazy azz "dope" strategy is just sending emails to the current declining football sr citizen fanbase which just get quickly deleted)...this is realistically not gonna happen under the knowlton/everett/o'neil administration (that is enabled by lyons while he cheers from the end of the bench in an empty haas) & that's really a SHAME

wvitbear-I voluntarily donate (contribute) approximately two hours of my time to prepare each game's preview or prediction. Why don't you look at how many Cal fans read them before every game? You're so consumed about increasing the WBB's attendance that you can't even see the obvious right in front of your nose. You certainly are not very observant, are you, my friend?

wvitbear

Your time here is appreciated but how doers that help Cal fund a women's basketball team. At the end of every Cal game.Charmin asked people to contribute money to the team. Does your column help add money to the team. If there was no team then what would you do? I contribute some things too but I don't think that had anything to do with the building of Haas Arena. Money does.
Shocky1
How long do you want to ignore this user?
wvit, ur kinda myopic, everybody including s71 has a choice on how to spend their money, right?

there are people like markeisha everett & jennifer simon-o'neil who are PAID to grow the fanbase & sell tixs, that's not happening right now

both of the wbb programs here in the desert arizona & arizona state routinely draw crowds 500% more than cal, why is that?

if there wuz crowds of 10,000+ on a regular basis nil donations & fundraising for the locker room renovations would not be an issue

different fans support the WBB team in different ways. S71 contributes by posting good analysis of opponents and pointing out the good and bad for our team as he sees it.

That raises the engagement of Cal fans here, and I always read his analysis, especially when I don't have time to do a little analysis myself.

The more fan engagement here and otherwise lead to more TV viewship, game attendance, and ticket sales, advertising attractiveness, and donations.

Regarding another post about Twitter X, Blue sky has almost no Cal sports engagement. Today, CalWBB does have a Threads account and there is a little more Cal sports engagement there, but not much compared to Twitter.

Actually among the social media platforms I go to, the highest engagement besides IG and Twitter is Tik Tok.

I'm just saying Twitter is a cesspool and best to establish an account elsewhere. I never go to Twitter anymore after having accounts for years and years and being very active there, both professionally and personally.

It's not difficult to share content across different accounts. If you make a post for one, just post to another...seems they are basically doing that. I think Twitter will continue to diminish in value over time given its current trajectory. Engagement on Twitter also includes a great many bots....unfortunately.

Bluesky in its infancy, at this point but sports accounts are growing daily. https://awfulannouncing.com/twitter/sports-media-social-migration-x-bluesky-threads.html

TikTok may not be available much longer....depending on what happens in the courts, etc...

I sent Coach C. a congratulatory e-mail this past weekend, and also urged her to think about Blue Sky.

Should also not criticize those who for various reasons watch on the ACC Network. Keeping that network alive is important for national recognition of the league and for shared advertising revenue among league members,

Cal should buy the season ticket list for the WNBA Valkyries.
Cal should buy the season ticket list for the Warriors.

It's a new world, and Cal Marketing has to change to meet it. They have to find a way to reach new audiences - and not just for WBB but football, MBB, WVB, WGym...

Maybe Cal Marketing is doing some of that - I wouldn't see those outreaches.
But whatever is being done currently is not working.

I've also watched ACC highlights and condensed games and game replays via YouTube a lot (and via Sling replays available via ACC channel menu there).

To your point, these options are all worth considering.

My gripe, similiar to Shocky's, is that it feels like Cal Marketing isn't doing much of anything involving this exciting team. I'm not a marketing expert, but you don't have to be one to know that the first key step is to increase exposure of the product. There needs to be some introductory promotions to get more people into Haas for these games. Once that is done, the product will start to sell itself.

nc, the way it works in the real world is that markeisah everett & jennifer simon-o'neil along with knowlton have failed to build any relationships with any of the professional teams that it's in their best interests to have healthy relationships with to sell tixs to berkeley alums in joint partnerships

and of course there's always the option of hiring a warriors or valkyries employee which is a common corporate practice

there wuz less than 1500 fans in attendance at the last game, this is a special team with a unique collection of interesting personalities that has not been marketed at all...this exponential growth opportunity is not likely to be there next season when 5 of the top 7 players are outta eligibility & usc/ucla make unsolicited nil offers to both lulu & gabriella

yeah there's a heavy price for the incompetence of the cal athletic department

Is there even a Cal Marketing dept? The new chancellor and his wife were on the bench for last game as honorary coaches. Maybe an email to him would help?

I very much agree. Charmin and her crew are responsible for helping to build the best team they can; marketing/publicity is up to that department.

(And it still bothers me that social media links are not on WBB's home page, prominently displayed at the top--and including Blue Sky--as they should be on every screen. For several years, such links have been buried under "More." I've nagged about this, but nothing happens.)

You've had the same grudge against s71 for years and years now. Why doesn't he go to the game? Well maybe he lives far away. Thanks to Lindsay gotta- leave who left the cub board quite bare, it took charmin 5 years to get the team together that she could win with. Tell you what how about cash-shapping me enough money so I can fly up to the Bay area and watch one of your games supply me with tickets and money and a couple of bucks for nachos if you can't do that then STFU and leave him alone.

finnish, the part "big" is not accurate

there should be 10,000+ fans at haas in an inclusive tent that is properly marketed by the athletic dept
