In the last paragraph, he says that Cal fans need to fill up the arena. Probably won't happen.

Well it would help if Cal Athletics made an effort to actually promote the team and its success.

Waiting for Cal Athletics to act is becoming (already is) tiresome. They've had plenty of time to jump on the Cal WBB bandwagon - 14 games worth!

What if we, as Cal WBB fans, took it upon ourselves to promote this very much deserving team? We could request assistance from the Golden Way director and members as well as the Cal Alumni Association.

1. Make a direct appeal to Cal students. The Daily Cal. Fund ads for the online edition and perhaps the print edition as well. Since students get in free, there would be no special ticket offers necessary. Just encourage them to show up particularly student groups. The student group with the largest turnout for that particular game would get some type of prize. Or they'd get points for each game they attend and the point totals at the end of the season would determine a prize for that group. You get the idea.

2. Reach out to Cal Alumni groups in the Bay Area and Beyond. There are 7 alumni clubs in the greater Bay Area and another 3 (Sacramento, Monterey Peninsula, San Joaquin County) relatively close. The Cal Alumni Association could help with these efforts.

Thoughts?

72, the cal athletic department needed to tirelessly work this past offseason to develop effective sales strategies instead of just markeisha everett & her staff just sending deletable worthless emails to football tix buyers who have never been to a cal wbb game

1) parternership with the san francisco wnba franchise which has NEVER won a game (which dispels the common misinformed myth here that winning more games will sell out haas) yet got 20,000+ season tix despots, the bay area is starved for women's basketball!!

2) the athletic dept leaving their closed door offices & visiting every campus living group (dorms, greek, co-ops, apartments etc.) with a current player & a short video presentation & FREE tixs & food encouraging students to attend games...today's students r tomorrow's season tix/donors

3) reaching out to every nor cal coach of a girl's youth basketball program or high school girl's team to attend as many games pass possible with their entire teams for FREE, this is an investment in building the fanbase & making haas a loud homecourt advantage

4) charmin reaching out to fhe largest football donors personally asking them if they would like to sit at the end of the bench on gamedays

5) scheduling a 2nd rock the haas event, give out FREE cal themed ear plugs to the current tiny but loyal sr citizen fanbase

6) the worthless athletic director & bureaucrat jennifer simon-o'neil designating a home game for each of cal's 30+ sport teams to bring the ENITRE team & staff to a wbb game as a team bonding event, that's never gonna happen but it should happen if chancellor lyons actually held anybody accountable for a nationally ranked FUN team that plays in an empty haas

7) with 2+ years of eligibility & a captivating australian accent lulu should be marketed as the FACE of cal basketball

8) cal wbb should be marketed/branded as a FUN value play FAMILY event in the bay area inclusive of those that are not berkeley grads

there should be 10,000+ fans a game for this special team!!!

all good ideas ... regarding school haas rock event ... one of best games all season and I heard players love it ... but from talking to various people in the athletic dept it's tough to get schools to attend as it's a big logistical effort ... we can help by donating tickets. I've donated a bus/driver rental a couple years, but the game was so early this year that I missed it

I've also donated tickets to a few youth players, taken some to games, and tried to organize/fund a youth league to play at halftime, but found out you can't donate tickets to a team or have players above a certain age (I don't remember the cutoff, but it was very low) due to NCAA rules ... it's considered a recruiting violation!

I've always advocated that college sports is the best value activity for families anywhere ... the ticket prices are so low, it's a family friendly atmosphere, and it introduces kids to college and gets them on campus early

it's how I first started thinking of going to college!

I also was communicating to someone in the women's program about helping to promote Cal WBB on social media, but that fizzled. I want to try to reopen that communication but have been too busy. I have tried to promote/support MBB and WBB on twitter, but it hasn't received much attention

I do my best to share links, game results, interviews, news stories etc on social media (Bluesky, Threads, FB, Instagram), Boneyard, Reddit (the Chronicle story I shared on Jayda's shoes got 9.6k views on Reddit), some in Rebkell etc.I used to bring kids to games when I coached youth sports but no longer in that mix.

I'm also a paid user of Bearinsider and so have started posting on the premium boards (like the KNBR interview), even though most there seem interested in men's sports. Any of us who are paid subscribers should make a routine of posting on the Haas Pavilion board to get the word out. I think many Cal fans are interested in cheering for a winning team but actually have NO CLUE that the women's team is doing as well as it is...even though BI posts game stories every time. Increasing the actual talk on threads can only help.

I've reached out to the team folks too mentioning an interest in helping promote, but I think they're busy with the season itself....

Doing more promotions with school age kids, elementary thru middle school, would be good...although the night weekday games aren't going to see a lot of attendance from that group, any weekend game should be a no-brainer....

I think reaching out to alumni groups makes sense....

I am overwhelmed by all of the great ideas that have been posted on this thread.

As an individual fan (senior citizen) who loves Cal sports, I intend to bring with me as many friends and family to the upcoming ACC games this season as I can. I hope many fans in my situation do the same. Honestly, if there was ever a time to do it, this is the season. As we all know, this team rocks! Combine the teamwork and defensive effort of this squad with the over-the-top 3 point shooting, and you've got the best sports entertainment value going in the bay area. To amend Charmin's phrase, "Bring a lot of freakin' friends!" Go Bears!
