I think she will be the hardest to replace next year. I don't remember any Cal big who does the things she does. 'The Closest would be Courtney Range, who could shoot the three but was always having leg problems which limited her. and her three point per centage wasn't close to Marta. We have had a lot of good bigs here but all were low post players.

From the first practice you could tell she was special. Grab rebound and go coast to coast. And play good defense too.

Two players Charmin got whom S 71 didn't like their statistics were Marta and Williams. How Charmin got them off the slag pile, I don't know. So maybe she has someone next year whom doesn't look impressive with stats but can play.

Anyhow, i tip my hat to Marta.

I love Marta and I think that the reduction in turnovers the last few games is entirely related to her resisting her desire to run the floor like a point. She's been playing within her role recently and really given us the fourth OUT that can threaten the defense to drive

wvitbear-I never criticized anything about Marta Suarez except for her turnovers. She is an excellent offensive player. I would suggest to you that she might be back next season. I have discussed this previously, but it will be up to her whether she wants to return. I cannot remember being critical of Jayla Williams. She can play offense but she became the defensive specialist at USC that completely shut down Jayda Curry. Maybe I criticized her turnovers early in the season that were too many for a point guard. However, she has improved a great deal. I agree with the person who stated that she might be the MVP of this year's team.

If the Bears can return Lulu & Marta, they might be able to add the PG, Puff Morris, from Etiwanda to the three-point shooter mix. I don't know about the other three newcomers. Hopefully, Charmin can find another in the transfer portal, but she must find a rebounding post player if they want to have success. Gabrielle is learning the ropes, but I would give her time to refine her game and try to bring in a proven veteran. They need Suarez's rebounding, too. She is 2nd on the team.

Marta Surez - Women's Basketball - California Golden Bears Athletics

Her freshman season was 2020 so she should be entitled to a Covid 5th year. She also returned home to Spain for her mother's illness midway through her RS soph season at Tennessee. Someone would need to investigate how many games that she played that year.

Suarez has played three season that *count* and should have a fourth year of eligibility available. GO BEARS!

Wow, Marta coming back next year would be huge. And while you can never have too much depth, I think that Gabby's progress has been phenomenal, I for one think that next year she will be more than capable to be ready to play significant minutes as our number 1 center. And obviously, less prone to fouls than Michelle

I'm a huge Marta fan. She is a matchup nightmare and gives this team a completely different dimension.

She also defends and rebounds

she is one of the big keys to this season (and hopefully she returns next year with Lulu and Gabrielle for 3 of our 5 starters)

Marta played 22 games the COVID year-that should be enough (less) to get her the extra year, right?

I like that Marta plays with an edge.

In recent games when she's had the opportunity to bring the ball into the forecourt, she seems more under control, not insisting on forcing the issue.

If she gets close to the basket she has crafty moves and the finesse to finish. She also has been passing the ball out to open shooters for quality shots.

She brings flair to the game and while it was frustrating to watch the reckless TOs, hopefully she's turned the corner and will pick her spots going forward.

She's a willing defender who is more agile than some smaller opponents think - she's tough to get around and her size means she usually won't be moved.

Not sure what's past this season for her. As a fan, I hope she returns (if she has eligibility left) but if she has other aspirations, good for her.

To me it looks like Marta has improved a bunch from last season and she was plenty good then. I'd say the same of Lulu and Io, plus Michelle is also making progress. Our coaches must be doing something right.

We are significantly better defensively than last year. Adding Jayda has made a difference. Gotta say I was a fan of Kemery, she was a real team player, but when she was on the court she was a defensive liability. Also Gabby is giving us good minutes on both ends of the floor.
