Women's Basketball vs Oregon State on 1/16/2025 - Box Score - Santa Clara University

Former Bear probably had the game of her career with 18 points & 8 rebounds to lead the Beavers to victory. I cannot imagine the Heide that we knew playing 30 minutes. On the season, she is playing 17.8 minutes with an average of 7.7 points & 5.3 boards per game. She leads the Beavers in shot blocks with 23. Wow!

Heide was highly rated out of HS (one of our 4 highly rated front court commits)

when she got on the court while at Cal she showed she could use her height to rebound and score depending on matchups (she wasn't as effective against athletic, quick posts

but she was mostly injured while at Cal

I was disappointed when she transferred and happy to see her succeed at OSU

Another player I liked was Muca. She is undersized for a 2 guard and got thrashed in her freshmen year here as she was thrown into the fire immediately because we had no guards, but she is a great shooter

I thought she deserved more time after she recovered from injuries. Happy she is doing well at her new home in mid-major Pepperdine which is probably the right level for her

I'm glad to hear Sela is finally healthy enough to play a lot of minutes and make the most of them.

Thank-you Stu,
It took 3-4 years for Sela to fully recover from knee or knee surgeries. She is fortunate, as so many players never fully return to their pre injury abilities. Cailyn Crocker, one of my favorite Bears had two great years at Colorado State, but has retired from playing basketball after recent surgery. She was pursuing contracts to play overseas. Cailyn is at Loyola Marymount endowed with the McLendon Fellowship in the Athletic Department. She earned a Master's Degree in Sports Management from CSU. It' s good to know former recent Cal Student Athletes, who have graduated, and found success after Cal. Kudo's to MiCole Clayton, Jazlen Green, Cailyn Crocker. Sela Heide and Ornela Muca! I am partial to Cal Student Athletes having worked as an RN at the University Student Health Services from 1974-1978. I played girl's highschool basketball in the old days, the early 1960's in rural Massachusetts not far from UMASS Amherst. The Cal Campus is a Happy Place for me.

watching the YT highlights is exactly how I remember her. Good hands, keeps ball high and can score with simple shots at the basket.

but this is also an example of what I meant about 'depending on match ups' ... that opponent had no size and no chance to prevent those passes and shots. Still the passes to her were perfect so a lot of a center's success is dependent on the offense and passing

I'm not saying that Sela can't contribute against longer/bigger defenders. I think she can if they aren't quick or bouncy, and if they are it's tough for Sela to defend them well either

at least that's what I saw in her early Cal seasons ... she could have improved her athleticism and quickness since then
