I'm so happy to see Cal women's basketball become relevant again and thoroughly enjoying the team this year. Also excited to see that attendance at home games has grown and hope they do well in the ACC playoffs and get past round one of the NCAA March Madness.
That said, after reviewing rosters, recruiting rankings and the players we are losing at the end of the season I have some concerns about our team for next year.
1. We lose 7 seniors although because 1 of them (6'3" Claudia Langarita) was hurt and did not play this year & she may be coming back, but I don't know how good she can be. Four of our 5 starters will be gone & I'm especially concerned about the front court where we lose our best bigs and none of the incoming recruiting class are front court players. Cal's only big is Gabrielle Abigor and she won't be able to handle the middle on her own.

We will have plenty of good guards next year, Twidale & King return with experience and the incoming class has 4 players who will likely play guard or a small forward. But I'm thinking we are going to have 3-5 openings for portal players and I'm hoping Charmin, with the help of Cal Legends can lure some talented bigs to come to Cal where they can expect to play right away.
2. If you haven't noticed, Stanford has quietly put together the #3 recruiting class in the country and landed three 5-Star and two 4-Star players. They focused their efforts on the front court where they landed #31 ranked 6'5" center Alex Eschmeyer, #16 ranked 6'4" center/forward Lara Samfai, 6'2" forwards Nora Ezike & Carly Amborn and their 5-Star PG recruit Hailee Swain is rated the #9 player in the country. All that to say we will have a difficult time beating this team even once next year unless we upgrade our front line contingent of players.
Additionally, NC, NC State, VT, Duke, & ND all have incoming classes rated higher than Cal's. Just want to see the positive steps that women's BB has taken this year continue and we don't fall back to a mediocre level of play.
Go Bears!
