We look tired

It is a long season and we don't have much depth so our starters play a lot. Ironically, Michele looks the peppiest but she usually sits more because of foul trouble. Plus these trips to the East coast are wearing us out.

The game plan to beat us is to meet us at half court with hordes of players and dare us to get it to Michele and sometimes Marta. The problem is their center fronts Michele making it a more difficult pass to get it to her. Especially with opposing guards draped all over us. Seems to me we should have a shooter in the corner fors a release . We aren't going to get a shot at the top of the key.

Does anyone else think they look tired.

We rested Marta for two games in late December. Plus in her press coverage the last game she looked really tired.

Who is going to the Syracuse game?

Think you are correct. We have had only one real breather game - against Pitt, and it doesn't help that teams are now turning up their defensive intensity, believing that this may be a way to beat us. We can play some off of our bench, but they don't score points. I do, though, think that Charmin has also made the right choice in going with our top six as our best chance to make the tournament this year. Would have really helped if Ackerman had been more available this late in the season.

yeah, starters are playing lots of minutes as there is such a drop off even with our 6th player (we trade defense for offense)

Ackerman would help. Hopefully she is back soon.

Michelle can play as long as she's not in foul trouble. When that happens we go to Gabby or Jayda sub in depending on match ups

But it's really about our guards. When any of our 3 guards go out we are offensively challenged. The player I'm most worried about getting tired is Williams.

Role players off the bench (except for Jayda) have not gotten to the point where they can be trusted to be productive.

When Gabby got into the game on Thursday, the coaches immediately were yelling at her because she was in the wrong place on defense.

If the coach does not trust, the player won't play (at least as much).

Of course, you have to balance that with learning on the job. But with all the focus on NET rating and the parameters around that, it's tough to find that balance especially when it is paramount this team makes the NCAA tournament.

I believe this is why this team is 6 deep right now and most likely will be going forward. Agree, Ackerman would help. Lola plays some because she's a solid defender. Drosouni plays some because she is stable.

I'd have loved to played Gabby and Zahra more (or even Gisela or Kamryn). It's just they've played like freshmen and in a season where a loss here or there will cost seeding and worse, not making the tournament. Charmin & staff will not risk this.

Even if it means player fatigue. They're going to go with their best and that's the way it has to be.

I'm hoping Gisela will be able to show she should be in the rotation

If Tali continues to be hurt, at some point Charmin is going to have to use Gabby slightly more. Hard to get by down low if Michelle is on the bench. Whatever the issue Charmin had the other night, let's hope she can straighten it out.

Good point! Not only are the East Coast trips long but also they include an extra day, Thu-Sun vs. Fri-Sun in the PAC-12.

I think the BC game really brought that out since BC played with such intensity. Normally we'd get more minutes from Jayda and Lola but crazy officiating took Jayda out of the game and Lola was uncharacteristically weak on defense. Gabrielle wasn't needed that much because the pressure was mostly on our guards. I was a bit surprised we didn't see more of Anastasia, who generally looks pretty savvy.

Props to Kayla, Ioanna, and Lulu for holding up as well as they did!

Agreed. I also noted "I think the BC game really brought that out since BC played with such intensity."

Boston College and Syracuse flew east to west and, trust me (we have kids in Brooklyn and England), that's a lot easier than west to east, which can be hellish, much more productive of jet lag than east-west.

(And it's not just the flight; it's the packing, getting to the airport with plenty of time to spare, waiting around, and then getting to the hotel/wherever. It's a whole day's work, probably with study to think about as well, and oddly tiring, even for 20-somethings. Not an excuse for Cal WBB and Palo Alto, but a reason.)

I've asked this question multiple times but no one answered. What day do we fly out to play the Thursday game?

based on shocky's post before the Louisville game, it appeared we flew out on Tuesday. Not 100%sure.

But maybe it's better that it is happening now or recently, rather than bring dropped on us at tourney time. At least we have a chance of learning to deal to with pressure better by tourney time. Obviously, it hasn't happened yet, but I'm sayin there's a chance!

One last thing about travel. When the opposing team has to fly out here, they complain about the travel. but guess what. we are making that same flight back from the east coast. So wee have our five trips out and we have five trips back.

I used to fly to West Virginia twice a year for 25 years to visit my mother. And it is much harder going out then coming home. A good part because on the plane you become dehydrated with their air conditioning.

We will be flying back from probably Roanoke Virginia. My daughter went to school back there so i have flown into that airport. It is about 30 miles from Blacksburg. A long flight. Plus we are playing the game at 11:00am which is 8:00am our time. Think this isn't an adjustment.

No wonder we are tired.
