Talk to me when Wilcox even sniffs the winning percentage of the last 2 years...

Cal lost today to a school from the best conference in women's hoops. They played crappy, no question, but Mississippi State is obviously a solid team.
Wilcox lost to UNLV ....

Cal lost in large part due to a lack of fundamentals and discipline. Picking up the dribble without knowing what one is going to do with the ball is epidemic on this team and should have been dealt with in grade school. Why can't the coaches deal with it now? How many lob passes did Twidale lose 8? 10? Maybe teach her not to throw those? Maybe sit her down until she learns? Discipline is coaching. Maybe we will see some next year.

MSU may have been "solid" but if Cal had played up to their capabilities MSU was definitely beatable. Losing isn't the worst thing, but it's a little easier when you know your team played as well as they could. Certainly not the case today.

Today Cal lost to the 10th place team in another conference.

We looked bad throughout the game in losing to a team with a losing conference record who was lower seed than us.

In the first half we had only a total of 19 points, 11 by one player and only two baskets by the entire rest of the team. And, our team is made up of mostly seniors.

Yuck is right.

Look who's back with his own special brand of negativity. He was absent when we won at Gonzaga, silent when we beat Alabama, had no comment after the thrashing of Stanfurd, couldn't be bothered when we stunned NC State or FSU, was quiet about reaching 20 wins, stayed away when we clinched a winning conference record, had nothing to say about a 16-1 home record, but we lose at the end and he gleefully pounces. The worst example of a "fan" I've ever come across. I liked it better when you were pouting about our success.

I was not defending their play in any way, shape or form. I was responding to the Wilcox reference, that's all.

I understand your Wilcox response. My statement was only intended to suggest that we sure didn't play well. No issue with your response statement, although honestly I never understand when a poster starts comparing a basketball coach to a football coach in the first place. It's apples and oranges.

They sucked. And I don't even mind the cross over in sports...but not when Wilcox hasn't shown anything that looks like an upward trend, seeing Charmin has improved year over year.
But okay, the poster said this was about the post season. We all knew that being the 8th or 9th seed meant the opponent in the first round was going to be solid, not a "UNLV bowl opponent." You couldn't be more right, they were beatable yesterday. Extra frustration that there was probably even some room for error, meaning a couple less turnovers, and a marginally better shooting percentage, while both still being bad, would have produced the win.
Just to add: If we believe in "metal sharpening metal" even a little, then Mississippi State coming out of the SEC was going to be that much tougher. Losses to South Carolina, Texas, LSU, Ole Miss twice-let's check the seedings of those schools for those talking about them being 10th in the SEC! They weren't going to fear Cal, and smelling blood was going to come quick and easy for them.

Agreed. And for a change the "circumstances"excuses, i.e. 4 hour travel flight, can't be used . It's just a hard one for us all to figure out.

For the record, we were playing in arena in our own home state where we had played in many times in the recent years. OTOH, Mississippi State had to fly five hours mid-week from three time zones away to play in an arena that they had never played in before. And, we were the better seed and favored to win. That is what makes this poor performance even more disappointing.

Not really "hard to figure it out". We need a really good assistant coach.

A good assistant coach could make a difference. But this year our team beat Alabama, NCState, and Florida State, and I know you watched those games and watched us play well. My humble opinion, Mississippi State did NOT smother us the way Duke did, or Notre Dame the first time and Carolina. That's why I have trouble figuring out what was going on yesterday, that's all.

Where was CalBearo when we were winning. I posted asking him to come out. He never budges. He said last year we would never get to the NCAA's. WRONG!

wvitbear, would you be so kind to point out where/when I said last year, "we would never get to the NCAA's"? I do not believe that I ever said, "we would never get to the NCAA's". If you be so kind to show me that I said, "we would never get to the NCAA's", I would immediately donate $1,000 to Cal Athletics.

"we would never get to the NCAA's" would be a foolish thing to say for anyone because "we", as in Cal, get to the NCAA's all the time in various sports.

Even if the focus is Cal WBB, it still would be a foolish thing to say, "we would never get to the NCAA's" because we, as in Cal WBB, is likely to get to the NCAA's in some future time.

Again, please help Cal Athletics with a donation of $1,000 from me by showing me exactly when/where I said, "we would never get to the NCAA's".

Thank you and Go Bears!

Well, not 5 hours and it's 2 time zones... and a few transfers and freshmen who haven't played there, but don't think you need any of that. Cal wasn't good in many aspects of the game of basketball..

Thank you for correcting my statement regarding time zones. Mississippi is indeed two (not three) time zones ahead of California. Also, to get from Starkville, MS to Galen Center in South Central Los Angeles, it is a three hour bus ride from Starkville (located in the middle of nowhere, I know because I drove through that area before visiting Ole Miss stadium in Oxford, MS prior to the Cal Football game at Ole Miss) to Memphis (the closest major airport to Starkville) followed by a four hour flight (not a five hour flight) from Memphis to LAX followed by a one hour bus ride from LAX to Galen Center (pretty much a whole day).

You don't need major airports when you are traveling charter. I don't care enough to find out what airport is used by Ole Miss.
Again, the ACC/Tobacco Road travel was/is a pain, and yes, some of the Cal teams have or are flying commercial. But, if you haven't done it, the charter world is a completely different experience (from the moment you get to the airport, and, more than likely "The Signature" terminal) to the moment you board the bus upon arrival.
Charter is an NCAA tournament requirement. I think it kicked in for the women fairly recently...not looking it up. There are plenty of reasons the Cal women had a chance to win, besides this "how hard it was for them to get there," starting with the fact that Cal beat a good Alabama team that Miss St. lost to.

That is a good point. I had not considered that they would fly charter flights, but still it is a long way from Starkville, MS to South Central Los Angeles.

I get it-you want to emphasize the loss. Fire, ready,
aim....
Use that "Mississippi State couldn't even beat Alabama" stat too...load up on the ammo...
