MSU may have been "solid" but if Cal had played up to their capabilities MSU was definitely beatable. Losing isn't the worst thing, but it's a little easier when you know your team played as well as they could. Certainly not the case today.mbBear said:Oakbear said:

Cal lost today to a school from the best conference in women's hoops. They played crappy, no question, but Mississippi State is obviously a solid team.
Wilcox lost to UNLV ....

Look who's back with his own special brand of negativity. He was absent when we won at Gonzaga, silent when we beat Alabama, had no comment after the thrashing of Stanfurd, couldn't be bothered when we stunned NC State or FSU, was quiet about reaching 20 wins, stayed away when we clinched a winning conference record, had nothing to say about a 16-1 home record, but we lose at the end and he gleefully pounces. The worst example of a "fan" I've ever come across. I liked it better when you were pouting about our success.Quote:
Today Cal lost to the 10th place team in another conference.
We looked bad throughout the game in losing to a team with a losing conference record who was lower seed than us.
In the first half we had only a total of 19 points, 11 by one player and only two baskets by the entire rest of the team. And, our team is made up of mostly seniors.
Yuck is right.
Go Bears!
I was not defending their play in any way, shape or form. I was responding to the Wilcox reference, that's all.RedlessWardrobe said:MSU may have been "solid" but if Cal had played up to their capabilities MSU was definitely beatable. I understand your Wilcox response. My statement was only intended to suggest that we sure didn't play well. No issue with your response statement, although honestly I never understand when a poster starts comparing a basketball coach to a football coach in the first place. It's apples and oranges.mbBear said:I was not defending their play in any way, shape or form. They sucked. And I don't even mind the cross over in sports...but not when Wilcox hasn't shown anything that looks like an upward trend, seeing Charmin has improved year over year.RedlessWardrobe said:I understand your Wilcox response. Cal didn't meet the moment at all....
Agreed. And for a change the "circumstances"excuses, i.e. 4 hour travel flight, can't be used . It's just a hard one for us all to figure out.
A good assistant coach could make a difference. But this year our team beat Alabama, NCState, and Florida State, and I know you watched those games and watched us play well. My humble opinion, Mississippi State did NOT smother us the way Duke did, or Notre Dame the first time and Carolina. That's why I have trouble figuring out what was going on yesterday, that's all.bearchamp said:
Not really "hard to figure it out". We need a really good assistant coach.
He's clearly a troll the bane of message boards and forums.Quote:
Where was CalBearo when we were winning. I posted asking him to come out. He never budges. He said last year we would never get to the NCAA's. WRONG!

For the record, we were playing in arena in our own home state where we had played in many times in the recent years. OTOH, Mississippi State had to fly five hours mid-week from three time zones away to play in an arena that they had never played in before. And, we were the better seed and favored to win. That is what makes this poor performance even more disappointing.
Go Bears!

Well, not 5 hours and it's 2 time zones... and a few transfers and freshmen who haven't played there, but don't think you need any of that. Cal wasn't good in many aspects of the game of basketball..
You don't need major airports when you are traveling charter. I don't care enough to find out what airport is used by Ole Miss.calbear80 said:mbBear said:calbear80 said:RedlessWardrobe said:

Thank you for correcting my statement regarding time zones. Mississippi is indeed two (not three) time zones ahead of California. Also, to get from Starkville, MS to Galen Center in South Central Los Angeles, it is a three hour bus ride from Starkville (located in the middle of nowhere, I know because I drove through that area before visiting Ole Miss stadium in Oxford, MS prior to the Cal Football game at Ole Miss) to Memphis (the closest major airport to Starkville) followed by a four hour flight (not a five hour flight) from Memphis to LAX followed by a one hour bus ride from LAX to Galen Center (pretty much a whole day).
Go Bears!

That is a good point. I had not considered that they would fly charter flights, but still it is a long way from Starkville, MS to South Central Los Angeles.
