For Charmin to suggest that they'll return to the NCAA Tournament again next year with only Lulu Twidale returning is dreamin'.After the coach brings in some portal transfers, I'll reassess the situation, but last year's five freshmen only yielded Giselle Abigor. Next year's four freshmen add Puff Morris & the 6-0 recruit (#70) from Texas. I'm surprised by Marta Suarez's decision but maybe she gets tired of committing 8 turnovers in big games.

S71 says: "I'm surprised by Marta Suarez's decision but maybe she gets tired of committing 8 turnovers in big games."

So, does Marta confide in you about her future plans?

Fyi. If you look at the Suarez thread, one of the posters on this site asked her at the Selection Sunday Watch party about returning next year and she said she hadn't decided yet because she had to graduate first or something to that effect.

Seriously S71, not only is the first part of your statement unsubstantiated, but the second half of it is something a grade school kid would say. You're better than that, aren't you?

In this current age I always find it funny that in men's FB or BB posters cr*p all over players and the teams when they just give a "flat tire" performance. Not so in WBB....Guess any criticism is misogynist?? There is an aura of protection over the program and players that is not there in other sports. Agree that S71 was unduly cruel to Suarez...This team would have been not much without her, even with her TOs.

All I see is some appreciation of the season. Who is being "protective" of this performance?
My opinion is that the discussion of criticism of the players (in any sport) is tied to them being "not pros" as well as some caring that they are college students and fellow alums, or soon will be. Does that feel different in the NIL/Portal era? Is that is going to be in play for many, and justifying a harsher viewpoint? I can see that, long before I worrying about gender identification as to whether we were frustrated about yesterday's game....

If someone wanted to criticize Marta's performance yesterday I for one have no problem with it. But I would expect it to be done in a grown up fashion, that's all.

"I'll reassess the situation"

Oh so basically you're going to scout whatever players we get in the portal and then and only then do I have permission to be positive about their probable performance in the future. Problem with all that is you're scouting is weak you're too old school, and you're too negative.

Interesting that you spelled dreaming, d r e a m i n '. Why did you toss some ghetto slang or Ebonics into that comment? You trying to be funny? It's almost as if you're ridiculing C coach Smith's coaching assessments of her returning players and your opinion you think they're not good enough. I've never figured out how you can make assessments of players when you never ever see them in person it's truly amazing.

So sad to drop to this level...Schroeder is a UCSB grad who has been a Cal fan forever. Dearly researches, loves the team/teams and is all in on Cal winning...And I think especially the women's BB program..At the same time he can be a bit incisive in his comments but take the Maga stuff to Off Topic..Hope you really aren't that sensitive...I disagree often with his comments but not his right to say them as long as tasteful, even if disagreeable.

He publicly identified himself as MAGA in a previous post. I'm just repeating his own words. Sensitive? Not even close.

Just tired of someone's Negative Nancy, pessimistic a** attitude. It's tiresome. Go to therapy.

Is Suarez definitely leaving? If so, S71 is right to be worried.

The odds of finding portal players as good as the ones leaving is low, especially given Cal's lack of a practice facility (which limits the opportunity for players to improve and make more money after graduation).

That said, a 25-win season is pretty special, and we should all try to appreciate the ride.

Clay, with all due respect if you've been paying any kind of attention to this board it has been stated by Marta herself that even she doesn't know. And then people wonder why S71 comes off as a MAGA type.

Understatement of the century, Finnish. For someone complaining about others being too sensitive…sounds like the poster is…sensitive?

Saying "I don't know" is often a cover for having made a decision that isn't going to make the questioner happy.

And it's also possible that "I don't know" has become outdated because a decision has been made. It's quite possible a decision was made between the time of "I don't know" and now.

Fair enough Clay. But if the answer is "I don't know" it's still irresponsible to jump to the conclusion like the initial poster on this thread went ahead and did. Just maybe "I don't know" can still mean exactly that. Even in today's world

No one knows what political affiliation(s) I have or have held because I haven't announced them-see how that works?. He made a point of announcing it loud and proud AND calling out those who were "left" of his thinking.
He distracted from his own "dearly researched" efforts, and single handily brought this out of "Off Topic."

There are obviously reasons to come to Cal, and Morris responded to those.

For others, the practice facility is a big piece.

One player isn't a trend, in either direction.

She definitely has another year because she's played four but the first of those was the Covid year. Anyone who was eligible that season got an extra year.

"It's a shiny toy in a world where shiny toys matter, so would be nice to have. But no one isn't getting shots up because of it not being there." Not my quote...let's say it's from someone close to the program, and leave it at that.
If I'm asked, or can give 50k for basketball, men or women, am I giving it to NIL or to the stadium fund?

Have to disagree with that statement. If a player has the urge to shoot at midnight, there's no place to do that now. (And yes, midnight sounds late to us, but remember 21?)

Funny question, because at 21 I was rooming with an okay Cal basketball player, who was dating the star women's play, and he had a lab partner who was the star of the men's team....
I hope it comes to pass some day for the practice facility....

Charmin Smith declared in post-game interviews that she is losing seven seniors. There are only seven if one reviews the roster. It's the head coaches' words that set me off for the post that I made. As you all know, I was the one that first came out with the fact that Suarez had an additional year of eligibility if she opted to exercise it.
The HC stated that she also lost seven players last year and still made the NCAA Tournament and that she hoped to able to accomplish that fete, again.

I was embarrassed by the performance and let my feelings get the best of me. Five assists, 24 turnovers, 25% shooting %, 14 % on three-pointers, the fewest field goals in a game for the 2024-25 season. The team put up 5 points in the first quarter, 19 at halftime and 29 through three quarters. If that isn't embarrassing, then I don't know what is?

I should not have made the comment about Marta's turnovers because that was childish. I was counting on her returning for next season, so I took a cheap shot.

Since you all think so highly of me on my 76th birthday, I'll withdraw myself from my function as the women's basketball preview and prediction person for next season. One of you sunshine personalities can more appropriately do the type of coverage that Cal fans deserve.

Btw, my family of diehard sports fans has always debated the pros and cons of every team that we ever religiously followed. I always pictured fans sitting in a sports bar having a beer and talking over the outlook for the coming season. The strengths & weaknesses and the necessary moves that needed to be made to have a successful season. This behavior covered the Oakland Raiders, the SF Giants, the SJ Sharks, the Golden State Warriors and all of the Cal athletic teams that i have followed over my lifetime. We criticized the coaching staffs and the player's performances if we deemed it appropriate. I know for a fact that there are lots of fans like my family members, my friends & myself. God Bless.

Oh, give me a break with the self-righteous post. You've made personal comments about players, insulted Berkeley fans over their political views, and generally had a terrible attitude. I'll take analysis and not whatever you think you're doing. Playing the victim here is honestly comical.

And Cal secured a commitment from a 2026 player with over 50 D1 offers. Shoot, I'll take it. We've got to hit the portal hard for posts. If we can't secure at least 2 commits down low things could be tough.
