Cal's 5-11 junior guard Gisella Maul represented Puerto Rico at GLOBL JAM (August 13-17), a 4-team round robin tournament of Under-23 squads that took place in Toronto. She played games against Team Brazil, Team Canada, and the University of Texas women -- Maul's former team -- who were selected to represent the United States.

Puerto Rico went 0-4 in these games, and here's what I could find from Sportsnet and other sources.

Game 1 (Wed 8/13): USA/Texas 85, Puerto Rico 45

Recap
Box Score

"Giselle Maul and Jasmine Nivar scored 12 apiece to lead Puerto Rico and Abeliz Rodriguez netted 3-of-5 triples for nine points...

Puerto Rico opened the second half on a mini 6-2 run, with a couple more deep balls contributing to the successful stretch. They showed impressive resolve going into the second half down a near insurmountable 44 points, winning the third quarter 15-12 with Giselle Maul scoring nine points on 3-of-4 shooting in the frame."

Game 2 (Thu 8/14): Brazil 78, Puerto Rico 49

Recap
Box Score

"Giselle Maul led Puerto Rico in scoring for a second straight game, netting 14 to go along with six rebounds and three assists...

Puerto Rico showed sharp help and pressure to force a Brazil shot clock violation, and Giselle Maul responded by making two catch-and-shoot threes from the top of the floor her only two shots in the opening quarter. Paola Hernandez scored twice, including a middy jumper to cut Brazil's lead to 16-15 after the first frame.

[Heloisa] Carrera continued to own the lane, finishing easily over top of Puerto Rico's smaller frontcourt to lead Brazil with 10 points at the half. Maul matched with 10 for Puerto Rico."

Game 3 (Sat 8/16): Canada 96, Puerto Rico 46

Recap
Box Score

She wasn't mentioned in the recap, but according to the box score, Gisella Maul finished with 9 points, 6 rebounds, 1 assist, and 1 steal.

Bronze Medal Game (Sun 8/17): Brazil 85, Puerto Rico 66

Box Score

This game just ended, so there's no recap yet. Based on the box score, Gisella Maul had just 2 points, but added 5 rebounds and 2 assists.

Looking at Cal's 2025-26 schedule, Maul will see some of these players again as opponents, including one of her teammates.

Ana Beatriz Da Silva, Idaho (Brazil)
Raiane Dias Dos Santos, Virginia (Brazil)
Taissa Queiroz, UNC (Brazil)
Angelica Velez, Syracuse (Puerto Rico)

Thanks for sharing. Great experience for her.

Gisella's scoring on a consistent basis over the duration of the tournament bodes well for this season.

Gisella looks to be a legitimate offensive threat this season. This is great news. In the couple box scores presented, she did not hit a high % of her three-point attempts, however. Maul evidently is completely healthy now as opposed to last season. GO BEARS!

The best thing about this report is she appears healthy

Also interesting she shoots threes. I don't recall any attempts last season

I think she can be a good defender if healthy

she can be our X-factor

Gisella played in 22 games last season and averaged nearly 8 minutes per game. Still in recovery mode.

She was 3/13 on 3-pointers or 23%. Her strength last season was rebounding (34) particularly on the defensive end (24).

I predict she'll be a significant contributor this coming season.

Thanks for the stats

With Michelle gone we will need rebounding

So frustrating when Michelle was out it sometimes looked like a volleyball match under the rim

Was hoping to see some improvement in her shooting percentages in these games. But was actually a bit lower than last year (40% on two point shots, 20% on threes for the tournament). We do need her to pick up the pace. None of our portal transfers are three point shooters, and none of our returning players, other than Lulu, had good three point shooting percentages last year.

We often lived by the three last season. It may just mean that we will need a different game plan on the offensive end.
