She just might be a hidden gem.

As a senior in high school, Lola Donez led the state of Hawaii in scoring - averaging 27.3 points per game.

In her junior year, she averaged 13.7 points per game.

Last season, Lola basically played a cameo role for the Bears. She appeared in 25 games and averaged 10.8 minutes per game, and she scored a total of 16 points in those contests including 1-18 on 3-pointers. The Bears were fortunate to have so many scorers already on the roster. But all are gone now except Lulu.

That's why I think Lola will step up and be an added scorer that Charmin will need especially when teams try to keep Lulu and/or Puff Morris in check.

Thoughts?

My thoughts are that you're being very optimist but I'm an optimist too and so I agree 100%. Lola would not be the first college athlete to blossom as a sophomore. I believe we're going to need her.

Hope I'm wrong, but I don't see it happening. I'd be more than happy if she worked on her shot all off-season and can get close to double digits

How is Hawaii hs basketball overall? Is there a way to look up aau stats when they played on the mainland?

Donez is one of the players that I will be watching at the open practice. She has a lot to offer. But to play a bigger role, she will have to be hitting the shots.

Look at the leap Lulu took from year one to sophomore year. It does happen and I definitely like her game. She also was hampered a bit due to injury last season so I'm looking forward to seeing her healthy on the court this year. Go Bears!

While I respect your opinion, Lulu's deficiencies didn't have much to do with her outside shooting ability. It was other aspects of her game that needed improvement and she worked on them to get better. OTOH, without a doubt, Lola's biggest deficiency IS her outside shooting. Sometimes, if you don't possess that natural stroke, outside shooting becomes very difficult to improve on.

Well, I guess I'll choose to remain optimistic. Players can, and do improve their shooting stroke. We shall see. I listened to a great interview Sue Bird did with Veronica Burton today. Burton was known in college for her defense, not as an offensive threat. She talked about how's she worked on developing that part of her game over the years. Interesting at any rate. Go Bears!

Really hope Lola improves on her shooting. I like her defense and think coach Smith likes her too. Last year she was one of coach Smith main sub at the beginning of the year but because of her lack of shooting her minutes dwindled towards the end of the season.

She starts her shot to the left of her head. I always hoped she would bring it around till it was in front of her. She can play defense.

I think Maul can have a breakout year if she's healthy

Lola was the "counselor"/coach for my daughter in her girls basketball camp, and my daughter will be cheering for Lola no matter what. (and I will too!)
