Tomekia Reed - Women's Basketball Coach - Charlotte Athletics
I visited Charlotte's website and found out that this HC, Tomekia Reed, is in her first year at Charlotte. This will be her tenth season as a head coach. Reed led Jackson State to five consecutive SWAC titles. JSU was the 14th seed in the 2024 NCAA Tournament matched up against UConn. Her winning % in the SWAC was 95%+.
2025-26 Women's Basketball Roster - Charlotte Athletics
Virtually every player on the Niner's team is a transfer. Their team is in the same situation that Cal is in this year with a multitude of "newbies" that the coach must get to come together.
2025-2026 Charlotte Women's Basketball
I have not seen Charlotte play but I did review their four game box scores. The 49ers are a tenacious team that averages 42 rebounds per game and forces approximately 18 turnovers. This team has one primary scorer and an incredible 5-10 forward that averages 11.3 rebounds per game. Their star is a 5-7 senior SG, Princess Anderson. She did not score in their opener vs Auburn and only played 7 minutes. In her last three games, she has carried the offense with 26, 26 & 27 points, respectively. The strength of the team is fellow senior, Asianae Nicholson. She averages 7 offensive boards per game. I am curious to see her play because she must be super athletic with hops and quickness. This young lady is the *heartbeat* of Charlotte's 42.5 rpg! The Niners also have another might mite, a 5-8 grad transfer guard named Imani Smith, that grabs 4 rebounds in limited minutes.
*Offense is Charlotte's challenge early in 2025-26*. They are only scoring 61 ppg and 26.3 of the points are coming from Princess Anderson. They have six threats from three-point land, but they only shoot 25%+ collectively. Their designated three-point specialist is 5-10 soph SG, Karen Nimo, who hits 40% of her attempts. She only plays limited minutes (13.3) but usually launches 3-4 treys in that time. The Niners are not good ballhandlers either. They generate only 10 assists while averaging (19.8) double that in TOs. Their starting PG is a 5-6 grad transfer, Tanajah Hayes. She accounts for half of Charlotte's assists with 5 per outing plus she is 2nd on the team in scoring (7.8 ppg). Her backup is soph Talia Cornish.
Charlotte plays three posts [ 6-3 Ja'Navia Gage, 6-5 Daphane White + 6-4 Caitlin Staley] for a total of about 40 minutes per game. I'm not sure if only one plays alongside Asianae Nicholson but I'm guessing so...
I expect this to be a ragged game ending in the sixties. The team that can take care of ball and put the ball in the basket most frequently will survive and move onto Sunday's championship game. GO BEARS!
