Marta Suarez is having a great game so far, ending the half with a long 3-pt shot off the backboard. TCU up 36-31. Marta leads TCU WITH 15 pts.

If you want to get a lesson on how to block people out under the boards, watch TCU.

NC STATE, 59, TCU 69 - NC State University Athletics

Marta seems to be a different player for TCU this year. Suarez only recorded three rebounds but also only registered three turnovers. Texas Christian continues undefeated (4-0) led by the former Cal star w/ 26 points.

Marta was interviewed after the game. When asked how she was in good shape in so many words, She didn't give specifics, and said that she is taking care of her body and mind wearing a big smile. She said it matters now and five years down the road. She is in great shape, is conditioned and exudes her excitement about the game as she did at Cal.
The announcers in the ESPN studio said TCU is the oldest team in the NCAA. Watching games this early in the season, it is obvious the players are young and not as experienced due to the Covid extra year having expired. Cal benefitted last season having 5th year seniors on the floor. Rich Campbell, the TCU coach recruits terrific transfer players, ie: Olivia Miles(Notre Dame). Plus, he is an excellent WBB coach.

Marta came to Cal soon after taking time off from Tenn WBB, to be with her mother who died from Cancer. She has some fortitude, a positive attitude, and is an excellent teammate. Hopefully, with the WNBA expansion teams in Portland and Toronto in the near future, she will be drafted, and embark on a professional basketball career. TCU was mentioned as a potential Final Four team with improvement as the season proceeds. It was exciting to watch Marta play for the BEARS for two seasons. One can only wish her the BEST!

The Chron's Marisa Ingemi reposted an item about her on Blue Sky Social this morning, simply titled, "The Marta Suarez Game." Another sigh.

I don't understand why Cal sports don't have Blue Sky accounts; plenty of basketball fans there. (I've been boycotting the Facebook and the Site Formerly Known as Twitter for years.)

Does anyone know why Marta elected not to return to Cal for this season? I felt that she was the best player on the team last year.

My assumption has been $$. Specifically that we didn't put the same value on her game that others did, or even more explicitly, that with our NIL budget if we had decided to place the value that TCU (and others) did, we'd have had to make other choices about Lulu, transfers like Sakima, and Puff.

I, for one, like our team this year and despite how Marta looks, to me at Cal her turnover prone game didn't fit with what we might be trying to do.
