I can't find the noise thread that started on a recent topic about something else. Anyway, I did write the two people suggested, and Craig Peden, director of "Marketing & Game Presentation," visited BearBloke and me a couple of times this weekend at our seats. Very personable, well-spoken fellow who talked about Haas, acoustics at Haas, the exceptional noise level in our section 16, etc. Didn't really answer any of my questions or suggestions,* but his department seems to be paying attention.

*Would 10 music-free moments really wreck half-time?

Frankly, I doubt anything will happen, but hope I'm wrong. It's going to take more than a few old/oldish people complaining, unless they are big-time donors.

(With all due respect to the many fine males in this forum, why do many guys talk so much, but ask so few questions? You don't learn much when your mouth's open.)

What's interesting is that the music from the dj was at a lower volume level during yesterday's Charlotte-Oakland game than it was during our game.

Why can't the entire game be free of recorded music except when the dance groups want it? We have a band.

Why can't the entire game be free of recorded cheers? We have spirit groups.

Why can't the volume from the PA system be low enough to permit conversation at every seat in Hass? Whether or not this is a technical or acoustics issue couldn't the volume just be set lower?

1) Was it indeed? That's interesting. Note that Marketing has a new "partner" in the mix, and who knows what this partner is feeding them.: https://calbears.com/news/2025/10/17/general-cal-athletics-partners-with-van-wagner.aspx

2) I shall. Y'all keep after them, too. Mention the Charlotte-Oakland game music if you like...

Doesn't seem too much to ask, does it? I wonder whether Marketing thinks we're asking for elevator music? I EXPECT sports music to be loud, just not THAT loud!

Thanks! I just sent this:

I attend most of the Cal women's basketball games and a few of the men's basketball games. At all of them I find the sound levels from the amplifiers way too loud, to the point I sometimes need to use earmuffs.

I'd like the volume to be set low enough to permit conversation at every seat in Hass. I don't think this is a complex electronic or acoustic issue, just a simple volume adjustment.

A related point is I come to Hass for basketball games, not concerts. Why can't the entire game be free of recorded music except when the dance groups want it? We have a band. Why can't the entire game be free of recorded cheers? We have spirit groups. IMHO the live sound contributes much more to the atmosphere of a game.

I complained to the ticket manager. Not only is the music too loud, it is lousy music. i'm a musician and there is no diversity in the music. I sit in Section 16 too. Stu sits the next section over.

I wear ear buds, noise cancelling ones that I bought just for basketball. If it's any consolation, I also wear them at Valkyries games too....they're good for flying too and aren't as expensive as the Air Pods so if you lose 'em it's no big deal....

Maybe it's what the players/coaches prefer...?

I have wondered about that. And I don't mind indulging the players and coaches; they're doing the work, but there must be a middle path, or is that too Californian?

There was a time yesterday where there was an interlude during the Cal-Harvard and the sound was very loud and did not sound like music???? I am being polite...What the Heck was it!!! I prefer having the band play, they are fun!
