That "song"

There's a "song" they play during the break between the third and fourth quarters, actually it's a less of a song and more like the sound of the world's angriest man screeching as a Komodo Dragon is devouring his leg. They play it at full volume -- and then some.. I literally find it an offensive noise. I'm liberal and accepting and tolerant in my musical tastes but this is no closer to music than is a jack hammer. I'd prefer anything else. Rap, reggae, country and western, Perry Como, classic rock, the blues, Beethoven, Gilbert and Sullivan, Taylor Swift, a mariachi band, bagpipes, the Vienna Boy's Choir, a rousing polka, anything.
For the rest of the season I'm bringing my head phones and playing the loudest music I've got to drown it out. I've yet to talk to anyone who likes it and many who detest it. The same little ditty is played at the beginning of football games. We've suffered enough.

Amen. Worst music in town.

Here's a suggestion to "resolve" this issue because I am, quite frankly, tired of reading all the "moaning and groaning" here about music choices and sound levels. It does nothing but bounce off the "walls" of Bear Insider.

First, the song played between third and fourth quarters is a carry-over from football games like you said. Perhaps that will change next season now that we have a new football coach, Tosh Lupoi.

The dj (disc jockey) who plays the music at Haas is set-up behind the basket near the visitor's bench.

Perhaps one or more of you should walk over there before the next home game and let that person know your concerns regarding song choices and volume. I think if you are cordial and polite to this person, an agreement favorable to both parties could possibly be reached.

This person is paid by Cal. Fans in Haas are the "customers" for such a "product".

The DJ may have some flexibility at certain times but I'm sure that hype song is a regularly scheduled thing so approaching the DJ would be futile. Complaints should be directed toward the marketing department, as I intend to do. My post was designed to inspire others who hate that noise to do likewise. I'm so sorry you've had to endure reading people's complaints on this topic. You should have a word with whoever is forcing you to read them.

Does the DJ control the volume?

I offered a viable solution, and you responded with a snide remark. How thoughtful.

My new approach would be to invite the Marketing people to sit next to you during a game and try to carry on a conversation.

You could also point out the empty stands while you are at it.

Craig came over a couple of times and sat with us for a little while last month, and I've exchanged e-mails with him; does the sound seem any different than 3 or 4 weeks ago?

We can keep nagging, and approach the DJ as well--although I wonder whether Marketing cares about old fans, apart from possible donors, as much as it does about attracting younger ones. Students get in free, but they add to the game vibe, and presumably consume food, overpriced though it is for rather junky snacks and decent beer.

I didn't think it was viable. The snide remark was in response to your snide remark about being tired of people having legitimate complaints and airing them on a forum that is designed for exactly that purpose.
I don't think either of us is served by continuing to snipe at each other about it. I'm sorry if I offended you. I'd rather forget it and just say Happy Holidays and Go Bears. After all we're on the same team.

I agree that marketing doesn't care as much about us old folks but I wonder if even the younger generation cares for that particular song because none of the younger people I've spoken to do. I'm just flummoxed by it.

Ear buds…noise cancelling…they do work. You can still hear but it's not that loud. . That's my comment.

Agreed. Just cheap ear plugs cut about 30% of the ruckus, and make me feel a little more...serene or something.

The only away games that I have attended in recent years were at Stanford and St. Mary's. I don't recall these game-long high-decibel assaults at either of those places.

I agree with you about St. Mary's.
