People want to play both at the same time. Not me.

1. First, have any of you have a film of either one making a shot farther away than 6 feet. I don't remember one. Therefore, if they play together than they will occupy the same space. Which means they get in the way of the other.

2. i don't know how many of you go to the games, but although Naya is listed at 6'1" tall, I don't think she is. She was standing beside Gisella and they were the same height.

3. Last year with Marta, we had a big who could shoot the three and handle the ball. Neither has been exhibited by Naya.

4. Who sits down if both play together. It won't be Lulu. It probably won't be Mjracle or Puff. so it would mean it would be Taylor. Who is actually the same size as Naya. but who does handle the ball and shoots the three. And can usually defend on the perimeter. Can Naya defend on the perimeter?

5. In case you think i don 't like Naya , you are wrong. Inside she has "Game". But i would like it if she would work on her outside shot, and her ball handling. And play more like Marta.

6. She is now not wearing her knee wrap. But it could be a problem for the rest of the season.

7. Who is the backup big. Are you depending on Claudia? Boy, I'm not.

8. Those are my reasons.

I agree with you. We don't have the depth to play both at the same time at this point.

So how manny games are you predicting that we will win in the ACC with the current approach?

Agree.. I don't think she plays as big as her generously listed height. On a couple of broadcasts, they mentioned she was highly rated volleyball player before, but I don't see the hops. There have been a few times where I've seen her shoot right into defenders raised arms.

Don't get me wrong, love having her on the team, She's a scorer -- all heart & hustle

I am not predicting there record but it will be worse than last time. You have to play the cards you are dealt with. We play the tough teams at home and the weaker ones on the road. Could be a a bad season. What are you predicing the attendance with our great record last year?

And it really hurt to lose Abigor this season. You are not always treated fairly.

wvit, u don't "play the cards ur dealt," charmin is paid just south of $500,000 to build relationships with potential nil donors & RECRUIT depth at every position, that's not happening right now

naya is NOT a 5, she's a natural 4 with her height & strength that does not need to shoot from the perimeter nor defend on the perimeter

cal wbb is heading into a very difficult stretch & if naya transfers out next season will be another absolute ****show in berkeley

but doing nothing innovative is kinda par for the course, yeah cal's wbb is a "victim" of extenuating circumstances & not just really bad coaching that can't figure out how to get the best 5 players on the court at the same time

fyi, abigor's vast talents wuz 100% wasted last season by not getting her on the floor with michelle & now she's gone and that has absolutely nothing to do with being treated "fairly"...winning coaches plan and recruit for potential contingencies

Lets clarify this. The fact that many are pushing for them to play at the same time does not necessarily mean that they need to be playing simultaneously all of the time. Their minutes can be staggered. If Sakima plays 30 and Naya was to play 30, you would have around 20 minutes when they're both in the lineup. Individually, each could be out there 10 minutes while the other one rests.

So the "depth" argument does not cut it. It's whether it would be more beneficial to the team if their minutes overlapped. Many here believe so, but it looks like Charmin does not.

There is also the issue of running out of gas and losing the fourth quarter by substantial margins, as we did against Missouri, Stanford and USC. But the chance to experiment is over, so this is now what we will take into league play.

Maybe Charmin and her staff sees something during practice or upclose that we as critiquing armchair spectators looking from the outside don't... or maybe not.

3 cats, charmin is a career sub .300 conference winning head coach despite coaching at a 11,000 arena located in the beautiful san francisco bay area at the #1 ranked public university in the world, maybe we see things she don't??

annarbor, great coaches NEVER stop innovating in the quest to improve their program...charmin could play both naya & sakima 30+ minutes (10 minutes together on the floor) on the upcoming brutal road trip in an effort to actually win a conference game...on the other hand she could keep doing the same ol **** & keep losing conference games to more savvy head coaches

I would be giving away free tickets to all kids, families and students. But there would still be problems:

1. No roster continuity - no one has heard of these players.
2. No local players - as we used to draw from O'Dowd, Oakland Tech, Berkeley and St, Mary's,
3, Some splash last year - but went out in the NCAA first round.
4. Not ranked and have beaten no good teams this year
5. Worst game day experience - noise, horrible concessions, difficult parking - that I have ever experienced in all of my years of attending sporting events.

annarbor, honestly nothing is gonna change with wbb attendance until the worthless bureaucrat jennifer simon-o'neil is fired by chancellor lyons

she is collecting her $500,000 salary & not growing the fanbase while destroying cal women's softball & volleyball programs

we will never forget the women's suicidal swimmers & their families#

FWIW I separated our current (after Cal Poly) stats into two groups: the 9 games we won and the 5 games we lost. Not surprisingly, most stats for most players are better in the wins than in the losses. However Taylor shot significantly better (both twos and threes) in the losses and her rebounds and assists (per 30 minutes) were quite close. Playing better against better opponents is a big plus, which may explain why she's leading the team in minutes played.

If Sakima and Naya and Taylor are playing together we'd have only two guards on the floor. One of Puff, Mjracle, and Lulu would be sitting on the bench. When Gisella (IMHO our best sub) is on the floor that could be just one guard, since I think Gisella plays more like a forward. I don't think we can win a lot of ACC games with just one or two guards.

I love Naya's game but at this point in her career it's strictly inside. I think she has the athleticism to defend away from the basket but she'll have to work on shooting and passing before she can move out far enough to avoid clogging the paint on offense.
Shocky1

stu, ur playing rotations are nonsensical, there would always be 2-3 guards in the rotation and the belief that playing 2 posts would be "clogging the paint" on offense is not supported by any nba/wnba coaches...and naya's 1st sport wuz volleyball, pretty sure she can defend 99% of the 4s in the nation if they step away from the paint

charmin has institutionalized turnovers as part of the game with no substitutions out or even courtside teaching moment conversations after ill advised intercepted 1 handed cross court passes, worrying about naya's passing skillz on this roster is not a legit concern

sakima at the 5, naya at the 4, taylor at the 3, lulu at the 2 & mjarcle at the 1 is the bears best lineup

gisella & puff come off the bench with lola the 8th player in the rotation

If Puff Morris comes off the bench, she's transferring the day the season ends.

And how many NBA teams play two bigs? How many WNBA teams? Yes, it can work, but you need a specific mix of talent to make it happen. If you have two bigs who only score at the basket, and both are playing, then:

1) If one of them plays outside, her defender camps in the paint and prevents drives; or

2) If both play inside, the drive option is not open for perimeter players, and their defenders can safely play in their faces, knowing they won't get hurt if they get beaten off the dribble.

Defense is half the game, and stats don't measure defense.

Last yer we szhot 34.7 % from 3 pint. this year we ar shooting 29.4 %. UI think one of our main problems is lack of three point shooting. How does playing the 2 bigs at the same time improve that feature.
annarborbear
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Given our low three-point shooting percentages, we may not want a lot of those shots. I think Puff already takes too many, especially early in the clock. Establishing a better inside game would at least provide the option of passing it back outside to an open shooter. However, this year, maybe we will just have to live with our limitations.

Maul was part of a really nice play to get Lulu open for a 3. Regardless of the competition, it was good to see Lulu find her groove and hopefully will bode well for her shot going forward in conference. Of course, she has to be open to shoot, hence the love for that particular play that I recall.

Unfortunately Donez can only pass and defend somewhat- she rarely shoots and doesn't make the shot even when wide open; last game when she was wide open at the far end the opposing player didn't bother trying to guard her so when she's in the game its like playing 4 on 5. Too bad the other new Bears haven't shown yet they should take over her spot.
