Louisville is a big, athletic team. Without Taylor we will have to get some quality minutes from Naya at the 4 spot. Without that, any chance of getting a W seems very slim.

Ugh. This means that they are for sure out, right? You can't be moved to active before the game if you are listed as fully out on this list.

I'll be at the game and excited to cheer our Bears on and hold Haas down as we have the last two years. But the odds seem slim!

I saw Puff in a pre game video talking about how the first fans get free shirts and I thought that was a good sign.

I'm excited to see who will step up for Cal. Isis, Grace and/or Anastasia will probably get a chance to show if they are ready to move into the rotation.

It will be a very tough game for Cal. I hope they play to the best of their abilities and, even if they don't prevail, learn what they can from the game and gain valuable experience. I'll be there to cheer them on.

Agree, based on our situation we'll probably need a few good minutes from one of them.
Also based on the size problem, I'm hoping that Claudia can be effective today.

The final injury report is the same as listed above except now Imari Berry is a GTD for Louisville

Louisville has 7 players that score between approximately 8-12 ppg. All seven have connected on double-digit three-pointers this season and their team averages 8/g. The Cardinals have outrebounded their opponents by ten per game (43.7-33.7) and their defense forces 17.7 turnovers on average. This is why they are 20-3. Two of their losses were to #1 UConn & #2 South Carolina.

Naya Ojukwu (6-1) needs to have a strong game against their post, Laura Ziegler (6-2). Ziegler is perhaps their top all-around player and is a transfer from Saint Josephs. Cal played them in the WNIT.

Someone get the crowd/student section to do a Kaleena Smith cheer. She's on her official visit to Cal but I think Louisville is on her list also..

Ziegler had Cal under serious consideration as a transfer destination. A least a couple of donors gave money in the effort to get her. It is believed by some that Cal fell a few dollars short to beat out the Cards.

Jayda Curry sitting courtside

24-28 at the half

Sheppard has about half the points.

Walker & Langarita 2 fouls each

A few bad tunovers

Cal had too many empty possessions...but they're hanging in there.

Mjracle is Cal's best advantage on offense. I'd look for Louisville to deny her in the 2nd half...

Cal's been scrappy for sure.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
If nothing else, the scrappiness and fight and improvement of this team gives me optimism heading into February. It's not too wild to imagine a nice run (with Puff and Taylor back) to put us on the right side of the bubble!

Against smaller teams, Naya's body control and athleticism was a real advantage, but at least against the last few teams, Naya has trouble finishing near the rim.

Ugh Langarita can't make a wide open shot so its like playing 4 on 5. Louisville doesn't need to bother guarding her. Don't care about Curry being there.

Maul is a beast but can't do it alone. Aside from Mriacle, the rest of the team isn't much help. Langarita is a complete bust, Twidale big disappointment again. Doubt the visiting recruit is very impressed.

Size, athleticism and depth caught up to Cal in the 4th

59-71 final

Sheppard and Maul had good games

Missing 2 starters hurt needless to say. Maul was tough as nails per usual and I loved her taking it to the basket. I think a few others are too hesitant, too many passes rather than just go up with it. I don't know…if I was a recruit I'd be impressed and perhaps realize I could make a difference here rather than end up on a team chock full. Each to her own. I like this team.

Lola played well too. In the third quarter we came from down 4 to take the lead. Louisville built 8-10 lead by finally hitting 3's but Maul kept us with range. Walker finally started scoring but that was after we got down by 17 with a few minutes left and Louisville put in 5 bench players. Really a gutty effort - the team never gave up.

Just not enough players.

If Taylor and Puff play it's most likely a one or two possession game at the end. Lack of bigs hurt against this type of opponent.

Cal played a spirited game.

Yup.. once we got back to with 2-4 points, Louisville would get hot on one of their mini runs.3s started dropping that one stretch, they started getting a bunch of o-boards and had those 2 consecutive (questionable) and 1's

Back from game. LVille's bigs can shoo the three.
RedlessWardrobe
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Back from game as well. With two starters out, our girls gave a great effort. But that Louisville team is certainly top ten caliber. They have size, excellent shooters, and their defense made us earn everything we got. Simply too much for our team to overcome.

Another gritty performance but we were short-handed and unlike Thursday couldn't hit the three. I think the player of the game was Gisella. She has heart. My new favorite player. She and Mjracle are fighters. I'm optimistic about what this team can do down the stretch with Taylor and Puff back.

Nice crowd for a Sunday morning tip-off:

Slightly less than Notre Dame crowd of 2,357.

Agree on all counts. We can't hit 71% of our threes very often but 3 of 17 did us in. We're in the game if we hit 6 of 17. We also missed a few gimme layups.

Sakima looked good against a very large lineup.

I think Naya must be fighting off some injury, she hasn't looked like herself the last few games.

I liked the solid minutes Lola gave us.

I've never seen Mjracle fall so many times. It couldn't be the floor since we have the best mop man in the country. Maybe new shoes?

Louisville's Anaya Hardy was dunking in the pregame warmups and even jammed an alley-oop. Didn't do much in the game, though. Tajianna Roberts killed us. It's tough to face two guards who look like All-Americans in one week.

Another problem is the band began with zero tubas. One showed up later but that wasn't enough to win.

BearBloke claims that the correct term is sousaphone, but I say tuba!

The Cal band does play sousaphones. Same as a tuba except the sousaphone has a circular shape which allows the player to get inside and support the (considerable) weight on one shoulder. I've played both and prefer to play the tuba but not to carry it. I'm now old and wise enough to think the optimal solution is a tuba with a porter.

My band friend says almost no one uses a tuba in a marching band because of the reasons you state (and I think weight), but much easier to chant Tuba, Tuba, Tube tan sousaphone, sousaphone, sousaphone!

Maybe we need a stuphone - a tuba made of carbon fiber rather than brass. Good sound, light weight, and only two syllables.

There was no John Phillips Tuba. Talked to Stu and we discussed the lack of tubas. Tuba or not tuba, that is the question.

Was going o comment on the alley oop but Stu beat me to it. 3 points total for Nadia and Claudia. we missed Tylor who is a reboundr and can play outside. Still was wearing a boot.

Women's Basketball vs Louisville on 2/1/2026 - Box Score - California Golden Bears Athletics

Lulu Twidale's performance helped cost the game today. Tajianna Roberts was matched up with her most of the game and outscored her 21-7. All of Robert's treys were over Lulu. Tajianna blanketed her and held her scoreless in the second half. Twidale could not get open against her smothering defense.

Also, the coaching staff played Claudia Langarita 24 minutes and Naya Ojukwu only ten. Langarita went scoreless. If Cal was going to overcome the single digit deficit, they needed to play Ojukwu to see if her energy could lift the offense. Whether she could score or get fouled, the Bears needed some offensive production against one of the best defensive teams that they have faced this season.

Sakima Walker only had two baskets the entire game until the last couple of minutes when she came alive against Louisville's bench for 4 layups/ put backs inside. Her box score ended up being a bit misleading (IMO).
She did do a good job of rebounding, however. All three Cal post players missed easy layups or two ft shots from point blank range, today.

For most of the game, Gisella Maul & Miracle Sheppard were our only offensive threats vs the Cardinals.

If the Bears can get their two freshmen to return for this road trip, they should be able to beat GA Tech & Pitt.

GO BEARS!

I wouldn't blame any particular players. If we had Taylor and Puff it would have been a different game. If we collectively made more threes it would have been a different game. And I can't fault anyone for lack of effort. After all, we played the #7 ranked team in the country.
