Cal hits 73.3% and tallies 28 points in 1st quarter. Gisella Maul has taken over the offensive leadership with 11 points. Nobody else has more than 4. Bears are "on fire", hitting 8 treys halfway through the second quarter. The team is shooting 75% from the field. Pitt is scoring layups against Langarita, Donez & Drosouni. Cal is up 22 at intermission, 54-32. Most points scored by Cal in a half this season!

Raining threes. Not even halftime and Cal has made 9 of 13 and Pitt 4 of 4. We're up by 25!

Up 22 at the half. 28-point 1st qtr.; 26 in 2nd.

On Thursday night, Stanford led by only 8 at the half (43-35) against this same team. They ended up winning by 21.

The acc reminds me of the pac12 in this respect: it's never bad to sweep a 2-game road trip. Even the weeks where you are playing teams in the bottom half, road wins are hard to come by.

Pitt has hit 6 for 9 halfway through the 3rd period. Fortunately, Bears are still ahead by 20. Panthers win third quarter, 28-24. Bears playing negligible defense to allow PIT to shoot in excess of 70% from the floor. Home team has hit 80% (8 -10) from deep.

It feels like PIT will make a run in the fourth quarter. Viegas opens with another trey and is 4-4. Panthers have cut Bear's lead from 25 down to 13 (82-69) with 6 minutes left.

I missed the first half, but the Bears need to remember to lay defense - Pitt is 9-11 on 3 pointers.

606 to go. Cal by 13. A couple of miscues of passes into the paint and some misses in close - and ....
Bears need to get back to whatever they were doing in the first half.

Lulu gives Cal back some room with a clutch three top push the lead back to 14. 4:25 to go.
Interesting that Morris still is in the game when some intense defense is called for. She must be feeling pretty darn good - or at least the staff is feeling pretty darn good about her abilities after the long recovery.

out of the timeout - Donez replaces Morris and gets a steal and a breakaway layup.
335 to go - Cal 87-74

154 to go. Cal still leads 89-76.
Maul now in a double-double with 20 points, 11 rebounds.

The Bears are on fire!

I remember someone on this board saying early in the ACC season that it would be a surprise if Cal won another conference game. Well… here we are with 6 conference wins and a 15-10 record even with all the injuries. Cheers to that. =)

5-1 in our last 6 games should get us into the tournament. We can afford one loss against the Virginia's.

Time to buckle down but today... we celebrate!

Palms of Victory. Cal prevails 95-80. Pitt did what it could make this a game but Cal could not afford a loss..
Twidale and Maul just were wow.

Looking at the standings and wow, if Tech can knock off Stanford that would be a gift for us.

Would put as ahead of the Furd and we've got the tiebraker against Tech.

This was an offensive game with negligible defense being played by both teams. Cal wins 95-80. However, the Bears were outscored in the 2nd half by 7 points and yielded a season high in a regulation game of 80 points.
Pit only averages 60 ppg. The triple OT loss at Syracuse was the other high scoring affair.

Cal hit 14 treys which is likely a season high. Stanford connected on 12 on Thursday night. Both teams had four players scoring in double figures today. Lulu Twidale went wild w/32 points and Gisella Maul had another double-double with 20 points & 11 rebounds. I believe that the Bears are .500 (6-6) in ACC play after an 0-4 start.

GO BEARS!

Happy for another win. Sure wish we could get some good news on Taylor. Doesn't look like she made the trip but she ldidnt appear to be in too bad of shape on the bench during the Louisville game. We could sure use her down the stretch!

Charmin said Taylor had a sprained ankle right after the injury.

Assuming that's right I think 3 weeks might be right for her to return. But bad sprains can surprisingly be long. Just depends on the person

Ironic that Puff's injury seems to have actually helped us. It put Maul into the starting line-up where she is playing like an All-ACC candidate, with huge contributions in both scoring and rebounding. And now Puff returns as a back-up player where she will also be very valuable.

Good to see the offensive numbers - Cal could not miss in the first three quarters.

Really glad to see Puff on the court again - a better sign is she didn't force things.

We'll see how it all shakes out from a lineup perspective but I like Puff and Mjracle to start to give the Bears better ball handling and that would give a better chance at a better start. Lola back as a reserve would be my move.

While I am disappointed about allowing 48 points in the 2nd half, I think Cal was satisfied with trading baskets in the 2nd half...probably not the best attitude to have, especially with two teams coming into Haas that are higher in the ACC standings.

However, I will take a 15 point conference road win, no matter the competition.

Cal needs to sweep this week because with only Clemson ahead of the Bears in the standings out the remaining 4 conference games, Cal has the opportunity to go 3-1 in those games (at the very least).

A 5-1 stretch would put Cal at 20-11 going into the conference tournament.

Anything worse means a lot of doubt of making the NCAAs.

Cal is in a decent position - hoping for good health because I like this team's balance if everyone can play.

Defensive intensity was lacking the second half though Pitt made some tough threes. Only Lola showed up on defense. We are turning into a fairly good three point shooting team. Even Lola is a threat if they forget her in the corner.

Interesting playing Claudia with Sakima. Claudia looks like she could hit a three so we don't clog up the middle. Naya having tough time against taller centers.

Charmin's postgame comments:

"I thought we came out with the right mindset, and were really good in the first half," Cal head coach Charmin Smith said. "Obviously, we made shots offensively and we were locked in defensively and did a really good job. We struggled to keep that momentum in the second half, but we're on the road in ACC play, so I'm happy that we got a sweep, and this helps us have momentum moving into the Virginias. These were games that we had to win, so we took care of business. We did what we needed to do to keep our postseason hopes alive. So now we have to get ready for two really good Virginia teams at home."

don't want to cry over spilled milk, but some of those close losses would have really helped us (of course)
