Very good news for the Valks; not so hot for Seattle, still a favorite team of mine.

Nice pick up giving the Valkyries 2 all WNBA Defensive guards (Veronica Burton being the other) and with Williams being all world in steals (99 last season wow - 2nd most ever) they are gonna put some serious pressure up top.

imho losing Thorton, who was really good last year, is not a super big hit because it felt like at times the others would stand around watch her go to work. Without her, the team grew well and that's when a few breakouts happened. Burton became a terror and Salaun became a little more confident. CeCe and Illana stepped up and as a result, the sort of compensated for Thorton's absence. With most of their key pieces back and signing some depth, they are a solid "big' away from being very good. I don't think the draft is going to provide that player, but maybe there is another free agent signing or a trade that will work. Curious to see.

I am also hopeful that Salaun shows improvement. She is so young, but flashed some amazing skills. She has potential to be very very good.

Whoa, I just read that they got to keep Thornton too. I was assuming she was gone leave. With last years' 1st rd pick from Lithuania joining them this year, the Valks are gonna be deep at guard and wing spots.

Plus, they have the 8th pick in the first round tonight.

Some are speculating that they might take one of the UCLA players, if available then.

They have apparently run out of roster spots for Tiffany Hayes, though…

Valkyries select Flau'jae Johnson LSU

Rights traded for Marta Suarez and 2nd rd pick

and it gives the Valkyries another big who can shoot 3's...and she seemed like she moved better this past season at TCU...

It is interesting because at first the Flau'jae draft made sense as she fits the Valks MO. Plus defender ready for the WNBA that can guard multiple positions and all hustle too. So the trade for Marta made me pause for sec. I like Marta a lot, but I always felt like she was a touch slow on defense. Butt he more I think about it the more I see, that with woeful 3 pt shooting the Valks had last year, the value was in good shooting over defense and lets face it, she is a good shooter and fairly big. I also agree she seems to be moving quite a bit better this year and has raised her defense as well perhaps as a result.

I try not to focus weight and stuff, but maybe she could see that she needed a bit "more" to be WNBA ready and got into better shape. Whatever the case, I find myself kind of excited she's back in the Bay and hope she carries some swagger with her three game. We need it

Temi, as a free agent, signed a 1-year deal with the Toronto Tempo today as per espn.com.

Gabby Williams is a very shaky three-point shooter. She had a little streak last year, but her career numbers aren't good at all.

As for Flau'jae, I'm thinking they traded out of the first round to save money on salary. And I'm also thinking Ezi Magbegor might be Bay Area-bound.

The salary is an easy thing to focus on but as it turns out there is likely less than $40k(which ain't much) to be saved according to various sources. Most of the sources I read are ruling that out.
