Excited to see Lulu come out hot, defense to be stifling early and lots of backup minutes. Will be cheering for Sofia to get on the stat sheet, and maybe see some extended minutes for carly and anna. Maybe see Ruby score a ton!

21-9 at the end of first quarter. And that's with Twidale having zero points.

Shannon is on pace for a triple double with 6 pts, 6 asst, and 5 reb at the half!

Everyone is playing defense - LB having trouble outside.

Lulu not getting shots from the outside and hasn't been able to score on the drives

Good example of when she needs to have a middle game

Barnes shooting well from every spot on the court

2-2 from deep for ruby… that's huge if she can be a shooter from range

Gisella's also scoring, and Syla looks more assertive tonight.

Cal is diversified offensively with nine players in their rotation. All have scored FGs already. The Bears defense is weak. LB State is one of the weakest opponents that we will face this season. The 49ers have missed more than half of their layups but have made 7! The Beach has hit only one outside shot out of their 9 baskets. Their Aussie (Okot) has three layups driving right around our post players for uncontested layins.

After 3 quarters, Cal leads by nearly 50 points Shannon Dowell makes things happen. She is leading the team in assists (7) as well as rebounds (7) plus has ten points.

Four Bear post players combined for 30 points tonight & 13 boards. Frosh Jevtovic played the best with 14 points and was rewarded with 18 minutes of PT. Syla received 12, Ojukwu got 9 m & our frosh Lagonikaki had 4. Naya led with 5 rebounds in nine minutes.

Offense is great although the team missed a bushel full of layups (24-41) and putbacks. Defense needs work for fast teams. The defenders need to be able to stay in front of their "assignment."

Wish senior Anastasia Drosouni well. GO BEARS!

Let's keep the audio off! At the media timeout in the third, Cal 61 LBSU 22 as Cal is outscoring LBSU in the third 17-2.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
Cal outscores LBSU 30-5 in the third. Cal scores more in the third than LBSU has scored in the game so far.
Cal leads 74-25

Dowell with 10 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists. The way this game has been going, she might get the triple double if left in long enough.

LB starting to get tired. Too bad, they were playing hard which I love to see. 3rd qtr Cal 30 LB 5.

Yes, LB isn't a good team but not sure I've seen a Cal WBB game with this type of firepower from so many places

Notice we have completely gone away from the pass to the post at all cost that we ran the past several seasons (no Walker, no Michelle)

yeah the cali bears (2-0, next game sunday vs usf) charmin smith appears to making critical steps forward in her coaching development with the significant reduction in turnovers with only 9 & 8 in the first couple of games

the lob entry passes thrown outta bounds, the offensive moving screens, the cross court passes thrown into the 3rd row, etc are being replaced by higher iq basketball decision making albeit against inferior competition

it's never too late to grow the **** up and that's why shocky is gonna be old town scottsdale's 1st bottle boy1 (bb1) earning big tips/azz grabs from drunk azz bachelorette party cbyf1s & cbyf2s!!

I enjoyed seeing the game in person this evening. I don't think we walked the ball up the court a single time. And we have the roster to keep up this pace all season.

Great teams beat the snot out of bad teams. This feels exactly like the game just 2-3 years ago we would have kept close until the 3q and then pulled away but with Lulu struggling there would be a bit of a worry. Not this team. I agree with poster above who mentioned a deep tourney run. I'm pumped.

Get well Dros! Let's beat USF in Tahoe!!!

It looked like serious knee damage. She was helped off the court hopping on one leg. IIRC she missed her entire first year with a knee injury. I hope it's not that bad.

The Beach was one of the worst teams I've seen in many moons. They finally hit a bunch of three in the fourth quarter but my goodness they were a mess. Encouraged by a lot that the Bears did tonight, especially the passing and defense. In her post game address to the crowd Charmin mentioned Hyphi House and fans coming in and making a lot of noise. I know a sure fire way to get noisy crowds: win basketball games. Nothing else works. Hype men, emcees, flashing lights, piped in music, none of it means a tenth as much as winning. Fortunately we look set up to do a lot of that his season. Do the marketing to get people in the seats, then let the team's play make them cheer and want to come back for more.

As they say...hold the reins!

WSU and LBS are not that good...but it has been two chances to see what the Bears have...

Dowell looks like a nice pickup. An aggressive offensive player who can finish. The official box score shows 12/10/8. She passed twice to Amborn for wide open 3s...unfortunately she missed both...otherwise, a triple double.

Lulu got it going in Q3. With more options around her, she might be even more deadly this season.

The bigs are playable - all of them. Each seems to being something a bit different.

I like Ruby. She is feisty, sticks her nose in there. Has no hesitation to switch on a big and get in their space. She and Lulu teamed up for two pretty backcuts. Looks like she can shoot some too. Zara looks like she has some skills too.

Taylor looks to have smoothed out her offensive game and Gisella should be fine.

All in all looks like the Bears are a solid team with some quality depth. The Bears can play 9 players immediately.

Should be an interesting season.

Hoping for the best for Anastasia but it did look bad. Bummer because she's already had a major injury.

in other really bad ******* news, cal men's basketball tix sale metrics are absolutely ABYSMAL for the upcoming season (with the strategic decision to not offer FREE tixs to all berkeley students, **** the poor kids is the prevalent sentiment by the outta touch white people in charge of this ****show) despite 22 wins last season

the unlikable evil as **** ****tards non berkeley grads jay & jenny plans to "launch" the "game changing" strawberry creek studios to successfully market both hoops programs wuz just more misdirection bull**** by 2 incompetent worthless bureaucrats that are enabled by a feckless chanellor who refuses to let dan mogulof do his job & terminate the only 2 athletic directions on planet earth that don't got any social media presence

yeah cal basketball is lost in berkeley after dark (with an aging out fanbase & everybody else not giving 2 *****)

season ticket hoops attendance metrics (as of this morning):

2025/2026
men's basketball: 2350
women's basketball: 838

2026/2027
men's basketball: 2628
women's basketball: 884

real talk: there are berkeley grads (such as bill schulz and so forth) with successful track records of building fanbases but there's ZERO chance they evah gonna get involved as long as jay & jenny are enabling serious abuse allegations against women's athletes as documented by the multiple lawsuits in multiple sports against the cal athletic department

https://instagr.am/p/DcJEBHTMphV
___________________________________________________________________

finnish oak, with all due respect, my guess is that you've never actually built a fanbase in real life, is that correct??

the wnba team across the bay SOLD OUT 18,046 seats in their 1st season despite having never won a single game as an expansion franchise

the wbb bears won 20+ game last season & this year got abysmal season tix sales of 884

multi pronged target specific MARKETING is the road map to building fanbases, the valkyries are successfully connecting with 2 hoops hungry (not welcomed/priced out of the white male centric golden state nba experience) underserved markets in the bay area: the vast asian/hispanic & lgbtq population segments that are turning out in historic numbers at chase!!

the non berkeley grad cal athletic dept don't got a clue on how to sell this exciting team with a charismatic generational icon in lulu

Good to see a full roster and for all of them to get playing time and make contributions. I hope this continues throughout the season and we don't shrink down to 6-7 players getting 99% of the minutes as have happened in the past.
Shocky1
How long do you want to ignore this user?

fun fact: there's only 8% crossover (cross selling) between valkyries & warriors fans (primarily due to the COST), bears wbb is a FUN affordable option but sadly non berkeley grads jay & jenny are incapable of increasing the wbb fanbase in berkeley beyond the 800+ season tix holders & are NOT held accountable by a feckless chancellor

and that's just messed up

Well, I'd venture to guess that Charmin, given the depth of the team, will try to make the most of as much as possible. However, as with the Valkyries, there are times/games to shorten the bench and I'd imagine we will see some of that as well, as needed.

Once Mjracle is healthy we are going to have a particularly formidable group of guards who are speedy, can hit the three, and do downhill. Taylor was really connecting offensively last night too so that was great to see. Shannon is extremely quick and can score from pretty much anywhere it seems. Ruby is fierce on D, has good handles and can also knock down 3s. Lulu and G were their usual strong selves and other new Bears are looking pretty good too. We're going to have multiple threats from 3 which I kinda saw during open practice....lots of players were knocking down those shots. Of course, that's practice, but most all of 'em had the ability which hasn't always been the case.

I was so upset to see Anastasia go down. I didn't see exactly what happened, but she clearly was in pain. I really hope it was just a sprain or something.
HoopDreams

I also didn't see what happened with Anastasia. She drove and made a great assist so I was watching the ball and basket only later seeing she didn't get up from the crash of bodies.

Getting help from both coaches and completely keeping her left foot up could have been a lot of different things.

With Sheppard out she was getting third string minutes at the PG position

Hope it's not an ACL or Achilles and she fully recovers

So far it looks like we're playing center by committee - In 2 actual games Albina has logged 29 minutes, Jovana 28, Naya 22, and Anna 5. Those add up to more than 80 because Naya has played a few minutes at forward.

IMHO it says something that our leading rebounders are Shannon (17), Lulu (12), and Ruby (11).

Court vision can be more important than height; Ashley Walker was a little under 6' and she leapt like a jack rabbit.

Judging where the ball will come down and having the energy to get there help immensely. Boxing out is basic. Jumping also counts. My model was Gennifer Brandon but I can't forget Kristine Anigwe's 30-rebounds (to go with 30 points) at WSU.
