Excellent news!

ESPN sez:
Quote:

Explosive interior defender with superb timing, shot-blocking ability; wingspan and length combined with athleticism enhances value; outstanding mobility in uptempo, pressure game; emerging offensive game completes the package. (Olson)

And from Fullcourt:
Quote:

Anigwe has a long athletic college body, runs the floor extremely well, and battles for position on the low block. Anigwe uses her long arms to grab rebounds at the highest point, and after she gets the board, she does a great job on keeping the ball up high, away from smaller defenders. Anigwe has good hands, finishes in the paint and does a great job protecting the rim. Anigwe is a definite BCS prospect with a tremendous upside.

Saw what looked like two players with Coach Steding at the Chalk Talk before the game. One was pretty tall, taller than Steding who is not a short woman. The other player was much shorter and thinner. They left with coach about half way through the talk. They seemed real happy with things. Lots of smiles. Wonder who they were?

Thank goodness that the Bears landed a post player! Cal could use a couple more, too.

GO BEARS!

Great atmosphere to show potential recruits what Cal women's basketball is all about. (USC cannot compete on this score btw...wink, wink).

I saw two young women at the chalk talk, one very tall and the other shorter...both wore Cal shirts and had big smiles.

Kristine averaged a double double last season as a sophomore :cheer

Probably an area for improvement... Freethrows. 43 percent last year

This Anigwe sounds familiar...hasn't someone mentioned her as potentially the top target for Cal given the paucity of California bigs on this forum?

Oh yeah...Me!!!

Muahaha! I mentioned Anigwe months ago after reading about her and then when the rankings came out she landed a respectable #59 by Hoopgurlz and#41 by ASGR.

I have only seen a tiny sliver of footage of her but was impressed with her ability to rip down a rebound! She struck me as a recruit who would be at least as good as former Arizonan (and ironically former Cal lock before the coaching change) Cortnee Walton though taller, but potentially someone who could blow up like an Oderah Chidon and work her way into the top 20 with some more experience and exposure.

This is just what the doctor ordered! I think Anigwe has the potential to compete with the UCLA front line. This takes a huge burden off our shoulders as we wait on Kristen Simon. And let's see what other out-of-state players we might be able to gain interest from! Woohoo!

I have no idea if she's interested or if we're interested , but Bri Berryman looks intriguing in this ESPN profile.

Ditto for Beatrice Mompremier, also from ESPN.

Importantly, the new Bear post player commit is over 6'1". In scanning available prep post players in the 2015 class, Anigwe sounded like a logical Cal recruiting target because of AZ's proximity to California, and she was one of the closest possible out-of-state targets, with post players in California pretty spare looking. Katy Steding can help her develop a post offensive game to compliment her ability to defend the paint and rebound. Perhaps, Anigwe is still growing and will reach 6'4" by enrollment time in Berkeley. Looking forward to her timely addition to the Bears' front court ranks following Brandon's graduation. Reshanda is going to need help in her senior season. Anigwe's verbal is good news.

IIRC, I've seem some sources listed Anigw 6'4" already! Talk about a silver lining to tonight's loss! I look forward to keeping tabs on her progress for the remainder of her HS career. With Ekmark hme schooling, she could be state POY as a junior!

Great news on getting a high quality post for 2014 recruiting class. Is she rated as #41 overall or post player?

We still need to get Simmons for the 2013 recruiting class. Our guards looked competative against Duke, but, our inside game needed help.
dfineguy
How long do you want to ignore this user?
OK Folks, this needs some clearing up. Our 2013 class is already here. Range, Hind, Waters and Jefflo are our 2013 class.

Gabriella Green and Mikayla Cowling are our 2014 recruits so far and we may add Kristen Simon. They replace Foo, Lyles, Cohen and Brandon and will be freshman when Boyd, Gray, Hartman, Shine and Dunn are seniors.

Kristine Anigwe is our first 2015 verbal. KA and her 2015 recruit-mates, if I may call them that, will replace Boyd, Gray, Hartman, Shine and Dunn. Gray and Anigwe will never play together. When our 2015s are freshman, there will be no seniors. At this point all our players will be Gottliebians. There will be no Boyleites left.

This is our current state of affairs barring any redshirts or incoming junior transfers before January 2014. Correct me if I am wrong.

I wonder if her team travels out of state.

Since the Arizona schools are down, it is a good time to recruit there.

"Anigwe Goes Pac-12

Kristine Anigwe of Phoenix, Ariz., joined the fall commitment craze, as the four-star junior committed to Cal this weekend. The 6-4 junior at Desert Vista High School (Phoenix, Ariz.) is the first commit for the Golden Bears in the 2015 class and fits the mold of the posts coach Lindsay Gottlieb has had success with, with size and physicality.

The timing is good for Cal as Gennifer Brandon is a senior this season and three interior players, Kyra Dunn, Reshanda Gray and Justine Hartman are all juniors. The Bears have two 2014 player committed No. 9 Gabby Green, a 6-1 guard from Oakland, Calif., and No. 20 Mikayla Cowling, a 6-1 wing-forward from Benicia, Calif. The team is also a finalist for No. 32 Kristen Simon, a 6-2 post from Los Angeles, Calif. "

Anigwe has excellent size already as a post player and is still growing a great deal. Standing 6-3 in heigth, she is a true post player. She is very active and rebounds outside of her area. She also runs the floor very well and is a solid finisher inside the paint.

Anigwe will continue to develop over time offensively, but she works very hard on her game and has some solid post moves already. As she develops as a low post scorer, she will see her potential improve a great deal. Already, Anigwe has a solid jump hook and is capable of facing the basket from mid-range and shooting the basketball with a soft touch.

Anigwe's best asset now is her willingness to compete and her activity around the paint. As she continues to mature physically, her aggressive style of play will suit her nicely over time.

Anigwe is a promising young talent in a talented 2015 class in Arizona. Look for this young lady to develop nicely throughout her high school career and become one of the more sought after recruiting targets in the country over time, as she has the potential to become a big-time talent.

2015 Class will be a critical one for this program. Anigwe is an excellent start. Hope the staff keeps it going with another big or two or three, a top PG and another Clarendon.

I don't want to see too many players all at once. As of now we have 4 for 2013, 2 commits for 2014, and 1 commit for 2015. Adding 1 more big and 1 more guard for 2014 and 2015 together would give us 3 guards, 3 wings, and 3 bigs in 3 classes. I think that's enough, since they'll all want to play.

A nine player roster with no seniors. You're just wrong. 4-5 for 2015. Aren't you the same ******* who wrote KC Waters off yesterday or the day before?

In many top programs, the sorting process occurs each year and a few people transfer when they do not make the top rotation. There may also be an occasional academic casualty and/or major injury. So some margin for error is always going to be necessary. However, I do hope that our staff can continue to make good recruiting decisions so that this churning process can be kept to a minimum.

If we don't land Simon Wednesday we need a MINIMUM of 5 players in the 2015 class!

I'd like to leave a little room for 2016's.

Not sure about the *******, but it was someone else who ripped KC. I ventured a number of positive opinions, but observed her height isn't exactly what's listed on our roster.

If that wasn't you ripping KC, then I was wrong and I apologize. But look at what is happening at UCLA and then tell me 8 or 9 on the roster is OK.

After watching the video, the tall recruit I saw with coach Steding at the Chalk Talk Sunday looked a lot like Anigwe. But not positive. Whoever she was, she looked 6' 3". She was wearing a Cal script sweatshirt and looked happy to be there.
