Lol, I love rankings!!!

I don't think the top 25 for 2016 changed much at all. There was a bit of movement in 25-60, but I think the main update was expanding from a top 60 to 100.

Class of 2016 - Top 100

Again, the top of the rankings look pretty much the same, with the main update being the expansion from 25 to 60.

Class of 2017 - Top 60

Then this is HoopGurlz's debut rankings for 2018 (before was just a list of "prospects"). At first glance, I spot a lot of differences between HoopGurlz's 2018 top 25 and Prospect Nation's.

Class of 2018 - Top 25

HAVE FUN!!! lol!

New Developments/Notable Points:

2016
-I mentioned this before, but we are not on #18 Valerie Higgins's HoopGurlz list of schools. Furthermore, I have seen rumors that Higgins and #20 Odom might attend the same college, thus...
-I'm intrigued by #44 Chanelle Molina (5'6" PG from Hawaii), but might be unlikely we pursue her (due to our needs and availability for this class)
-Ruthy Hebard inches up to #54
-Celeste West is not in the top 100, but she has a "40" grade, which generally means she hasn't been evaluated. Odd considering she's with Cal Sparks.

2017
-Very intriguing (new?) name: Loretta Kakala (6'3" local post) ranked #30. Attends Manteca HS (where Courtney Range ended up graduating from).
-Taya Corosdale (6'2" forward from WA) checks in at #26.
-N'Dea Flye (5'8" PG for former powerhouse Oregon City HS) ranked #33.
-Vanessa Austin (6'2" post from Utah) at #38 could very well be someone we recruit. Father (Ike) was born in Cali, played for ASU, and earned the Most Improved Player Award for the NBA in 1997. Started his NBA career with the Utah Jazz and owned/coached an ABA team the Utah Snowboarders at one point.
-I'm counting 11 in the top 60 I would consider "West Coast recruits."

2018
-Aquira DeCosta is #2 for 2018 (and listed as a W).
-Kiara Jefferson (5'9" PG from West Campus HS in Sacramento) lands at a very impressive #9 for 2018.
-Randomly, we are currently on the list of schools for Tyler Collins (a 5'6" PG from Georgia). She is not in the top 25 but found her on the 2018 "prospects" list.

Kat- have you seen Loretta play? I found that intriguing too...I haven't followed Manteca HS since Courtney graduated.
Although I know rankings can change as the girls get to their senior year, I'm happy Kiara (everyone calls her K.J.) made the list! I have followed her game since middle school and have watched her evolve every year. I attend some West Campus games, they are building a program.

I have not! I've been holed up at home (in SF) lately working on a big project, so don't get to games. Will try more next year.

More notes on Loretta: team-highs of 16 ppg, 13.4 rpg, 2.9 bpg as a soph (very nice!). Threw the shot put consistently around 37+ feet as a 9th grader (for East Union HS, tho). That probably puts her around those strong c/o 2014 NorCal bigs (Mandy Coleman, Ayanna Edwards, Joeseta Fatuesi) in terms of sheer muscle.

I recall Erica Payne was originally ranked #26 for her class by HoopGurlz but finished in the 70's or 80's, so we'll have to wait and see how things develop with her. But very intriguing!

Very exciting for "K.J."! I'm not sure if I had read about her before, the Sac name I had encountered more (thus was looking out for) was Courtesy Clark. Clark didn't crack the top 60 for 2017 (but seems like she hasn't been watched by them in a while). I imagine you know her better than those scouts though anyway!

Kat-the list has 5-stars all the way down to number 52 in the 2016 class...for the uneducated, is it that great a year for girls HS hoops?

lots of folks are scratching their heads about those stars right now. and how frankly useless they are being so many with 5. not sure what's up with them there! better off just disregarding them.

They didn't used to have that many 5 star players. More like 15 to 20. Too many armchair evaluations instead of going out to the games.

What will be our needs in 2018? What type of players do we need/position ?

She is a very good athlete but has not developed the skill she needs. Very athletic though. this is a common problem for Sacramento's girl's team.

Sacramento High is a magnet school, founded by Kevin Johnson. They recruit the top players in Sacramento, who can go there for free (which is why no private school dominates Sacramento like O'Dowd does Oakland and St. Mary's does Stockton).

Over the years, Michele Massari has done a good job getting the talent, and has had some very good seasons, but they've never gotten past SMS. It looked like they had some chemistry issues last year, which can happen when you get a lot of talent and egos, and like Berkeley, they have relied more on that talent than anything else over the years so when the chemistry goes south there's not much to fall back on.

We'll see how they do this year, but they do seem to be coming back to the pack a little ...

Sac HS did have chemistry issues this past season. The starting 5 consists of freshmen, sophmores and 1 upper classman. The prior 4 seasons Coach Massari starting 5 stayed together, played together and all obtained D1 scholarships. This current team needs some time to gel. Like wvitbear stated they are athletic but they need to work on shooting (more consistently) and finishing at the rim. I think summer AAU season (Cal Sparks Norcal) will give them that opportunity to tighten up...its gonna take time. I'm hoping to see a much improved team this coming season.

Sacramento High School was founded in 1856, so I don't think it's possible that KJ was a founder of Sac High. In 2003 KJ helped gain it status as a charter school which I guess you can make the argument the old school had to close in order for it to officially change status, but to Sac High grads it's one of the oldest schools in the state.

Good point, Barabbas ... but the school's identity and focus changed radically as soon as KJ made that move. It certainly seemed as if it was a new school ...
