I think it was Sunday's game against Sac State, but either Saturday or Sunday, the Straw Hat Band played during player introductions.

Who would EVER think this is a good idea, to try and drown out the introdutions of the Cal players?

Not I. But I'd love to hear the Straw Hat Band play over just about everything else on the PA.

A friend just told me the band always does this. Funny I did not notice before. The band's playing on Sunday made it harder to hear the announcements.

Any dissonance with the PA announcer really depends on where you sit. As can be witnessed in pro sports who study the market, young people love the high energy and noise - and looking at Triple Threat as an example (no disrespect intended) Cal needs to draw more young people. :-)

Perhaps the sound people should turn up the volume for the introductions ----- problem solved.

Makes sense. The canned music is LOUD when the men's starters are introduced and you can hear that clearly.

It's too loud already. A guy 30 years younger than I won't set foot in Hass because the sound is painful to him. The men's games are worse, next time I'll bring earplugs.

earplugs? naaah, invest in some decent noise cancelling headphones. jvc nc-250, for instance, or their ilk. # don't leave home w/o 'em

That's for reducing mild noise (by 18dB) so you can hear music better.

For Haas reduction try these:

Over earplugs.
