What a great game after we got down 20 to 7! We played our 5 starters most of the way and all looked good. Mo played some, Nina less.

Kristine, Courtney, and Kayla dominated inside on offense while Asha, Courtney, and Kayla hit 9 threes. Gabby, Kayla, and Asha racked up 19 of our 20 assists. If Kayla's name keeps coming up it's because she was stellar in everything tonight.

Courtney, Kayla, and Gabby can and did defend all 5 positions with aplomb. Our glaring team problem was failing to get back on defense. Nebraska was running upcourt on everything, including our made shots, and must have gotten a dozen wide-open threes on breaks. If we'd stopped those we would have won with ease.

Nebraska's guards played very well, their bigs less so. Theriot made 8 of 8 free throws and an insane 15 assists! Romeo made most of the aforementioned uncontested threes and finished with 24 points. I was pleased to see Romeo play so well. She looked vastly better than the one time I saw her as a high school senior and fit in as a textbook shooting guard.

Nebraska played pretty rough inside and the refs helped us out by calling most of it. Hope that keeps up.

In a perfect world Romeo will get sick of the Nebraska cold and will come back to the Bay Area to help add some guard depth to our Cal bears roster . Gabby didn't score any points but played very smart. Less turnovers and easily 5+ assists.

Romeo is an amazing pure shooter who really knows how to get open for spot-up shots in Nebraska's offense. Anyone would want to have her on their team. However, she also had zero assists. She did not look like a point guard in this game, and I think we are lucky to have Thomas for that role in the future, since she is also a solid shooter.

The ESPN box score shows Gabby with 9 assists, 6 rebounds, 5 steals, and 1 block (along with just 2 turnovers and 0 fouls).

Big win ... I saw Kristine before the game and told her to have a big game

Guess that was why she lit it up!

What did you tell her before the Sac State game?

I just realized that I went the entire game without cringing when our players went to the the free throw line. Kristine and Asha have really added that new dimension, especially in such a close contest.

The Nebraska people complained about the calls. My advice is if they want their opponents to shoot fewer free throws they should hold, push, and hack less.

Isn't that weird? I've almost stopped cringing.

+1, the entire game was well played. I cringed a lot on bad passes too but surprising not much of those too. Well played game all around. I liked Gabby two drives to the hoop but need to show more confidence on those.

thought Cal had at least 2 questionable travel calls against us. Props to the crowd of 4406 fans.

That game was so exciting! The crowd was so loud and involved. That roar near the end when we were on defense! I don't think Nebraska is gonna want to come back for a while. Great win! GO BEARS!

Looking back on this one, the only real negative is that we had to play four starters more than 40 minutes each and another 38. It was worth it to get this big win. But we are going to need something more from our bench throughout the long PAC12 season.

Luckily we have ten days to rest until the next game. But yes, we will need more from the bench or our starters will be exhausted by the end of the season.

It looks like the "double-header" with the men's game brought in some extra spectators.

That wall of sound produced at the end of regulation was pretty awesome.

So Romero is a solid scorer as a shooting guard. How did she look on defense and other aspects of the game? Off the box score, it sure looks like Asha played a great all-around game in the Cal backcourt, including her twenty points. While she contributed to the victory in many other ways, I guess we're all anxious for Gabby to hit her stride as a scorer. With Gabby and Kayla helping to light-it-up, Cal's starting five would present opponents with a true "pick your poison" defensive dilemma. Good win! o Bears!

Romeo is a shooter. She didn't really stand out on defense, with no steals in 42 minutes, although she did seem to stay with people pretty well. She had 6 TO's to go with the zero assists, so her role on the floor is to shoot. She has a very quick release, which she needs since she is pretty small.

I think Chen Yue is the least ready to play at a high-level. Mosely can hold her own. Davidson seems ready, but needs to box out and hold people off of the boards. I have actually liked KC's game the most, and hope that she can offer 10 minutes. The coaches are going to have to take some chances.
