pac frosh of the week is again #31..
> .. CALIFORNIA’s Kristine Anigwe was voted the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week for the fifth time this season..

http://pac-12.com/article/2015/12/28/pac-12-announces-womens-basketball-players-week

Quote:

Despite playing just 32 minutes in No. 21 California’s 150-minute, double overtime tangle with No. 19 UCLA, Kristine Anigwe (Phoenix, Ariz.) notched her fourth consecutive double-double and fifth in six games turning in a 25-point, 10-rebound performance in the non-conference tilt. The forward’s work in the paint included five offensive boards, while her defensive effort included one block and two steals without committing a single turnover. Anigwe has scored in double figures in every game this season, including five 20-point performances, and is averaging 30.25 points per game in her last four outings. Anigwe’s five freshman of the week nods is two shy of the single-season record set by WASHINGTON’s Kelsey Plum in 2013-14. It is Cal’s eighth weekly rookie honor all-time.

Courtney Range was a Player of the Week nominee.

Congrats to Kristine...again. Read the record for freshmen of the week is 8 by Kelsey Plum. Think Kristine should had at won at once THE PAC-12 player of the week. Does the Pac-12 allow a freshmen to win both awards in the same week?

The most amazing thing to me is how she got rid of that bad habit of bringing the ball down low in the course of just a few short games. I was expecting at least a year to get rid of that. And her step-through moves are also something new. This player is growing quickly along with her talent.

It is great to see. Glad that the rough patch where she did not respond well to the "coaching" turned out well.

Yes-the step through move was amazing...She also has that short jumper that banks in off of the glass from either side. Reshaunda Gray and Gennifer Brandon could make that on occasion but missed often. I agree that Kristine Anigwe is far advanced over any other freshman post player in recent memory. The only area that needs obvious improvement is staying on the court out of foul trouble. She fouled a three point shooter against UCLA. There were also another three potential fouls that could have been called on her besides the five that were flagged. GO BEARS!

Her biggest improvement areas are in passing (she has an ungodly number of turnovers) and defense. She is improving on both but those are her biggest deficits.

Anigwe has 37 turnovers and 4 assists.

Yeah, well there were parts of the UCLA game where she was triple teamed inside and the officials weren't calling many of the fouls on her. I have not been this impressed EVER with a member of the Cal women's team. I agree, she needs to get better at kicking it out to open shooters, but for a freshman, she is AMAZING.

The strengths listed on scouting services and on this board for CJ West have included above average passing as a post player as well as quick and decisive moves around the rim. Imagine the high-low game the next 3 years between these two 6'3-6'4 posts! Great job, Kristine. You are fun to watch!

The article said Kristine was 2 shy of Kelsey's FOW record, so with 3 more, she'll own the record outright. Hopefully, she'll shatter it by season's end.
