Tyler Summitt resigned as head coach of Louisiana Tech after admitting to an inappropriate relationship with one of his players (and rumoured that he impregnated her). Ok, the guy probably should never have been hired in the first place given his age and limited experience at the time of his hire. But, seriously, think with the brain inside your skull! I would have thought his mother raised him to be a better person.

Even worse is an article mentions that he got married in 2013, and no mention of being divorced.

Very ugly ... the woman followed him, or was convinced to come, to LaTech with him from Marquette. Many opportunities to say no, none of which were taken advantage of.

This is why nepotism should never play a part in hiring in any venue what-so-ever.

Huh? Louisiana Tech is NOT Tennessee, so I don't think Nepotism was at play here. Reputation, yes, but not Nepotism.
Or are you suggesting that all kids of successful parents must choose a different career than their parents, otherwise they might have sex with coworkers or subordinates?

I thought it was strange from the beginning to hire a then 23 year old male, with 2 years Asst. coach experience, to be in charge of about 12 girls aged 18-22.

I dont care if he was married or not. Way too young and too immature for my liking, in both age and experience.

Seems like he was working hard to add to his experience.

On another note, A young woman the same age last week here in the Bay Area was dismissed for similar charges at a Christian high school for relations with young girls. Maybe the age has something to do with it.

Well, yes, agree.
Nepotism is not the issue as much as young male hormones. Put us in a cage until 30?

It was the reputation of Pat Summit not her son. So yes he was hired because of his mother. If he were not Pats son he never would have gotten hired.

No I am not suggesting that children chose a different vocation than their parents only that they need to be hired on their own merit and not because of what their parents accomplish. Many young people actually change their names to avoid being hired because of their parents reputation. Do you think there is nothing wrong with hiring someone not based on merit but purely on a relations reputation?

In respect to your response to iminocs post. His age was only a mitigating factor for his issue. However he was hired ( despite his age ) because he was Pat Summits son, pure and simple. It was because of who he was related too. Some companies will not hire two people from the same family just to avoid this type of favoritism.

I still stand by my statement. We were supposed to have left the aristocratic family class distinctions behind us in Europe. Good breeding and genetics etc. I suppose some people long for the good old days.

LaTech's previous hire was Teresa Weatherspoon, who had no real background as a head coach either. That didn't work, and neither did this ...

Maybe they should try hiring someone who's qualified rather than someone who has a familiar name.
