Circling back to Clay's rumor about the Vandy job, check out this article...

Yeah, the thing about names being thrown out there in the media for coaching candidates is that many, many names often are not a result of inside information but are rather a matter of media and others surveying the landscape and throwing out names that might make sense for an opening.

How many people saw Martin's name linked to Cal before he was hired? How many names were floated that weren't even in consideration? Many. That's the way it always is.

Honestly, while it appears Ionescu prefers to go to college up North at UW or UO, I bet Sopek would probably prefer an Assistant coaching job at Cal (although I'm not sure which program would be in the position to offer more $), and not having to uproot his family, or make such a big transition. But I don't see LG pulling as many strings as necessary to orchestrate all that. It's not her style and a bit against her principles.

Yes I think Cal is out of the running for Ionescu and I thought past posts mentioned Sopek favored Oregon in general. Wherever they both end up-it will be interesting if they go to two different Pac 12 schools- Sopak would be able to help coach against his former star player- knowing all her strengths and weaknesses. I've moved on from all those pipedreams and now excited over our own commits whom as one previously mentioned those who WANT to come to Cal and likes our school and coaches and players.

Also in play is Evina Westbrook. If both SI & Kelly end up in Wash, Evina might make it a Trifecta!

I don't think Evina & Sabrina that much of a package deal considering Evina eliminated Oregon before all this new stuff about Sabrina and UW emerged (although perhaps Evina was privy to it while the public wasn't).

Evina is kind of a funny recruitment. Now she's #2 overall. NUMBER TWO!!! That's higher than Ionescu for her respective class. Yet there doesn't seem to be any favorite for Evina. Her list is a bit random and none of them really seem to have any edge. She was said to favor West Coast schools initially but her list suggests that that has changed.

Cooper has a lot of critics, but I think she's in the mix for Destiny Littleton, so I wouldn't sleep on 'SC for Westbrook either. Notre Dame simply hasn't signed a recruit from the West Coast in a while that I can think of (they signed maybe 5-6 from SoCal, WA, and Colorado a while back during their post-2001 Champion slump).

I've kind of moved on from Ionescu. She'll be a headache for us whether at UW or Oregon, but I'm really excited about Styles—I see a future WNBA player there.

Doesn't seem like ANYONE practically is recruiting the "other" Poly girls (Danae Miller, Jasmine Jones) despite both being ranked. Shalexxus Aaron is intriguing. Seems very Cowling-like (more of a wing than Styles). And she just joined Cal Stars for AAU. But I think her brother plays for USC? So they might have the edge.

I'd like to see another guard, and I think the one from Idaho, Tori Williams, makes a lot of sense.

Not much buzz about Julia Blackshell-Fair despite #37 ranking on HG. Think ASU is after her though, could be a good fit.

As far as Cal goes, the only ones they're involved with out of the names above are Tori Williams and Destiny Littleton.

Huffman played at ND last 4 years Kat

I don't see Aaron being Cowling like at all. That said the two games I saw were like 40-8 with Aaron's team ahead at the half. So she runs well. 😄 Aaron played with Pivec to Oregon state and another ranked player

DeCosta plays for Sopak also. She's a monster 😳

Good. Maybe if Sopak goes to UDumb or QuackU, DeCosta might outgrow his influence and Cal will have a legit chance to land NorCal's next great player. With SI it appears LG never had a fair chance between QuackU offering her brother and UDumb probably hiring her coach.

In truth, other than Cal and some pac-12 teams, and UCONN didn't watch much other Women's BB. Still Sat lot more than played in her career. She did play more her senior year than all of the other years.

So l heard Cal has hired Wendale Farrow (former asst. at Vanderbilt) as the new asst. coach. I believe he was at UCLA before Vandy. Nice guy and from what I hear he should be a great asset to the program.

Is that confirmed? My limited search skills showed nothing. If so it would be an ironic twist to the Coach G in the mix for Vanderbilt rumor.

Definitely with Vandy looking for a new coach, it's a good chance that head coach will want to bring in her/his assist. Also both coachG and coachkai are both followers of Wendell, which also not a sure sign but it is an indication they are aware of him.

I guess I should have said,"So I heard Cal has hired...". As nothing is for sure until it is released or tweeted by a Cal rep. But that is definitely what I heard from a pretty good source.

My first thought was picking u p a good assistant from one of the many coaching staffs "disbanding" so this makes sense and his UCLA stint seems useful

Oh yes forgot about that one. Before Huff there was Gaines, Irwin, Laverne, and before them a couple posts: one from Yakima WA and another from one of those Colorado HS's when they were pretty dominant.

Aaron's brother was a top recruit transferred from L'Ville to USC. Her HS teammate is Tea Adams, a top 100 player who plays PG. Aaron has Stanford on her list but I think her GPA is 3.2. Both Aaron and Adams played HS ball under new Arizona HC Barnes's tall dark and handsome Italian husband Salvo Coppa, so perhaps both might consider Tucson (since Barnes's hired her husband as an assistant on her new staff).

I think DeCosta is friendly with all the Cal girls so that's a plus. I think Cal is at least one of her favs among the Pac-12's then UConn looms.

Seems like Maya Dodson from Georgia might be Stanford's best shot at the players from that state who seemed like options. I believe she's lists the Farm in her top 5. Newby and Coombs visited Penn State, who acquired Boykin from UConn off a transfer and might get another good transfer as Camara (who left Kentucky) visited recently. PSU's Teniya Page (ranked as high as #7 out of HS from '15) had perhaps the best frosh campaign behind FOY Anigwe. Her classmate Amari Carter was another highly touted guard but sidelined by injury. They could be putting together a strong team if Newby and Coombs join (though Coombs also linked with UConn a lot). Kiana Williams out of Texas, the #12 ranked player and a PG has Stanford in her top 5, but none of the others seem to be top academic schools oddly.

The player you mentioned with early interest in Cal out of Texas, Zarielle Green from 2018, jumped up to #3 in her class. A 6'0"/6'1" wing who is said to be the best in Texas now behind 6'4" Collier. However the interest in Cal may have faded.

Thought we would have heard a decision from Meyers (who had Stanford in her final 4) by now. She also listed Princeton, whose coach seems to be final 2 for the Vandy job (with reports saying Ivey staying at Notre Dame now).
