I find it interesting they're struggling financially with an average attendance over 7000.

All in all, a very fair look at the league -- but with the ESPN and Verizon deals, the annual losses have been cut significantly. The biggest issue, though, is that not only don't the franchises appreciate in value over time (the biggest moneymaker in the NFL, NBA and MLB) but that they have no intrinsic value at all. In others words, if you put one on the market, you would have no one willing to buy it for anywhere near the par price of $10 million for an expansion franchise. It would cost about $500,000 to transfer ownership, etc., and that's about as much as anyone wants to pay.

But the league is still here, and puts about 4,500 actual warm bodies in seats on summer nights to watch women play professional basketball, and that's a significant achievement.

We should get a franchise in SF the summer after the new arena opens, probably 2020, a move that should help the league.

^^^ I wish Sac would have Monarchs team again (WNBA champions), new arena also (Golden 1 Center).

This is pretentious, but if they played with a ball that did not look like a mound of vomit, I would consider watching.

Good imagination. It is pretty ugly. I'm always surprised that women don't shoot a better percentage than the men because the ball is smaller and the rims are the same size. I guess the height disadvantage compensates for it.

No national network TV.

The ball is also lighter, and that's why you see more shots bounce off and up with the women's ball, rather than off the rim and down through the net.

On balance, I think the smaller ball does help shooting percentages, but it has not helped dribbling and passing. The biggest difference between the men's and women's game is not dunking, but ballhandling. Girls don't play pickup and they just don't get the feel guys do.
