In Coach G's tenure we've had 6 of 18 players leave early (Johnson, Dunn, Ben Abdelkader, Jefflo, Cavanaugh, Green). Make that 7 of 21 if you count Sherbert and her classmates who played a year under Coach B. Either way 1 out of 3 didn't complete their careers at Cal. Coach B's numbers were similar, before that I can't say.

For the student body as a whole recent graduation rates (in 5 years) have been 85% to 89%, or about 1 in 8 not finishing. It's a bit better if you include those graduating after more than 5 years.

I'd like to see WBB completion rates approach those of the entire student body. Maybe that's asking too much, but putting a little more emphasis on academic, attitude, and fit considerations could help.

I wonder what the Pac-12 rates are ...

Green and Jefflo were good players, the departures of whom have hurt the team. The others seemed more like Plan C recruits that we had to offer when we couldn't get anybody better. I think the real issue is having a number of good Plan B recruits in the pipeline when people like Plum, Simon and Ionescu decide to go elsewhere. Instead, we have typically been casting about for whatever fallback recruits we can find late in the cycle.

Jefflo's departure was stupid and involuntary. It doesn't make sense to lump her in with anyone who left voluntarily. And anyone downplaying the Cavanaugh injury issue out of skepticism shouldn't. It's a major factor why she's not playing at Rutgers, either.

I think of all our departures dating back to Coach B only Aguirre and Dunn could be labeled "Plan C" recruits. Adrian was a foreigner we may have expected to do better. Ben Abdelkader left to play professionally in Europe. Cavanaugh was a well-regarded player who left for medical reasons. Green was a McD AA. Heater was a top-100 player but an epic bad fit, she left not only Cal but basketball and college entirely. Jefflo was a valuable player who left because of some transgression. Johnson was a Parade AA and ranked above Boyd and Gray by Hoop Gurlz. Casey Morris was in everyone's top 100. Jene Morris is playing in the WNBA. Sherbert was a McD AA. Stallworth was a McD AA.

It looks to me like whatever is going on is more than discontent at the end of the bench. Probably a unique explanation for each case.

Cavanaugh is now at Fordham, apparently.

So a major factor that Cavanaugh isn't playing at Rutgers is because of her concussion eight months ago? But she's good to go at Fordham? I respect your commentary and articles, but if you wouldn't mind I'd be very interested in a little more clarification on that point. It's probably there and I just can't see it ... but I don't understand that statement.

Is Mercedes Jefflo going to be playing college basketball, again, and, if so, where?

Her health issues led to both transfers and is serious. No idea if she's been fully-cleared by Fordham.

As for Jefflo, no idea, but the fact that she's still not playing is very telling for those that think she just chose to leave.

^^^^ If anyone gets word that Jefflo is back playing let us know, she was my daughters favorite player hoping she gets her life back on track.
