Hi all,

Went on the road to watch this game: http://bearinsider.com/news/story.php?article=2228

Bears played well for the first game, and more important, they stayed focused and together.

Really great write up! Spot on. I thought it was pretty exciting game. That one play by Brown that you mentioned really got the crowd on its feet (the bears crowd, which may have actually outnumbered the Gaels fans). I love these freshmen. They showed up ready to play. Go bears!

13-20, 65% overall. Asha and Nina, perfect. Courtney and Mi'cole, 75%. Jaelyn, 50%, and let's just say that Kristine's contributions lie elsewhere.

Kristine shot 1 for 4 which is an aberration. Last year she shot 75% from the line.

She seemed very frustrated last night. Gael players getting into her head with sagging defense caused her to lose focus.

This is true. Thinking about last season though, any time the Bears encountered a defense that figured out how to shut Anigwe down, it generally spelled disaster for the Bears. Anigwe was entirely shut down this game, but the outcome this season looked like a much different story. I am hopeful this season after seeing that. When Anigwe is keeping 2-3 defenders busy just by being on the court, it looked like the bears figured out what they could do with that. They never figured that out last year.

Anigwe scored 9 points the second half plus collected a slew of fouls against their big people. She would have scored in double figures the second half except for her poor free throw shooting. We won the second half by scoring inside. We led the first half on Thomas's 3 point shooting, but she only made one the second half.

Hopefully she's inspired to put some time into her free throws..

St. Mary's lost to WSU pretty big today in Pullman, 85-69. It was on the road, as opposed to Cal winning at St. Mary's, but a pretty bad loss for SMC to a team that probably won't do much in league.

Probably another top to bottom dog fight in league play again this season, despite what should be marked improvement for Cal this year.

It was a fairly close game till the last quarter.. St. Mary's looked tired at the end of the Cal game. The travel plus a tough physical Cal game probably took its toll.

So are you saying St. Marys cannot hold up to the rigors of travel and a physical game? Your reffering to the St Marys and WSU match up?

Maybe WSU is better than we all thought or maybe the match or style they play up just happened to work in there favor.

It is not like St. Marys was traveling back East.

Have you ever travelled to Pullman? It is not easy. The Palouse is a tough place to travel.
