Saint Marys is 5-2 this season, only losing to #3 Oregon at home and to #8 Oregon State
on the road. The Gaels also defeated Washington State in Pullman.
This is the fourth consecutive year that these teams have faced off. St Marys has five
seniors on their 15 member roster versus Cal's four seniors. These teams know each other
well.
Although #13 Cal is undefeated (7-0), they have not played a complete game yet. Every game has
been close at intermission. Aussie senior center McKay (6-3) played Bear senior C Anigwe to a stand-off
last season in Berkeley: 17 points each. This year the Gaels are loaded w/ five three-point shooters. Four
hit between 42.1-44.4% from the field. This team is a bad matchup for Cal. I predict that SM will lead by ten at half and that HC Gottlieb's pep talk will be unable to motivate Cal to climb all the way back...
Ball handling is a weakness on both squads. SMU averages 18 TOs per game nearly identical to Cal. The problem is that Cal does not full-court press nor half-court trap this season to apply pressure on their opponent.

This game is a trap game and Cal will be outplayed by Saint Marys. Last season the Bears outscored the Gaels 87-80 in Berkeley. Cal was on-fire with six players scoring in double figures. The Bears #2 Cowling, #3 Cayton, # 4AT & #5 Davidson scorers (see boxscore above) will not play for various reasons [2 graduated + 2 injured]. Cal hit 8 threes to offset Saint Marys eight treys but those three Bears (Cowling, Cayton & AT) will not be available this afternoon.
