Any information on how the men's team is doing with recruiting? It's started!

What happened to ursusarctos--? No posts for over two months, since the Olympics. Hope you weren't banned by the board managers for some silly reason, like being the MVP poster for Cal Swimming. Wouldn't put it past those people.

None of the top tier recruits have made any announcements, but are making their rounds across various schools in the previous weekends based on social media (Texas A&M, UVA etc). Think there should be enough scholarship money to make a run towards a well-rounded and highly talented class based on the current junior class, but would depend if any potential grad transfers or current Cal team members opt in for a 5th year.

Also worth noting is that we currently have 2 confirmed commits for the class of 2022 (Zach Tan and Hank Rivers). Curious if anyone knows the status of the remaining top 2022 recruits?

Cal's 2023 recruiting class is coming together quickly, mirroring a national trend that shows a vast majority of the 2023 men's class having already made their verbal pledges.

Cal's current 4 verbals include the #5 (Keaton Jone) and # 9 (Roman Jones) recruits in SwimSwam's "Way Too Early list of top-20 boys from the high school class of 2023".

Keaton Jones holds the fastest time in the 200 yard backstroke for the 2023 class, and has potential in the 500 free and 100 back as well.

Roman Jones has fast times in the 100 yard distance in free, fly and back, in times swam last spring as a 15 year old.

Sam Quarles is also listed by SS as a "Best of the Rest" prospect as a sprint freestyler.

Possibly the "jewel" in the class is Nikolas Antoniou, a 2020 Tokyo Olympian from Limassol, Cyprus. Antoniou's
converted sprint times in the 50 and 100 free currently rank him at the top in both distances for the 2023 class.

Where as the guys recruiting is coming along where does the women stand on recruiting for 2023. I do see one recruit #53 Kathryn Hazle from the san diego area. Meanwhile the Florida Gator and Texas each gotten at least 5 top 50 recruits per Collegeswimming website. Of course many of the top recruits haven't commitments yet though I expect the Furds and Va will get their share. We don't seem to be pulling in the top recruits class since the 'fab four' era!

The cloud has a list of all Cal commits (But their reports come slower and not as complete as UrsusArctos*'s )

On another news, the new diving coach resigned

Thanks for the link to "The cloud". We all miss ursusarctos californicus post on 'all' swimming recruits ..even if they are Furd recruits.

Looks like Cal has hired a interim Men & women diving coach, Murphy Bromberg. She graduated from University of Texas in 2019 and was a NCAA scorer in all four yrs of college.

Was UAB really banned from posting here by "management?" Can one of the guys or girls who post in green answer that. The only f-ing programs Cal has that Can win win NCs are on the other sports boards, for the most part but nobody is interested in them.

I don't think he/she was barred (imo). Of course I don't know for sure. I think there was a person or persons who called him out for posting recruits from other schools..especially when there was a slew of Furd recruits. UAB ceased to post not soon afterwards.

Not a 2023 recruit but ...
This would be a pretty dynamic portal pick-up for the 2022 recruiting class, but I doubt Coach Durden has the available scholarship funds to close the deal. Johansson would fit in nicely with Robin and Bjorn and be a solid replacement for Yeadon.

Thanks to all the Bear fans who posted above! Great way to be a fan from afar in these digital/internet times. I look forward to seeing the new pool as well as the campus with retirement slowly coming to fruition. Last time at Cal was couple decades ago….I too miss UrsaActus whose posts were very informative and helpful for a fan from afar like me!! Cheers

2023 freshman Geoffrey Vavitsas is diving very well. Based on the performance at Ohio Invite, it's a certainty that he & Diver Joshua Thai will score at NC 23-24. It's the matter of how many. It'd be interesting if diving points help Cal beat ASU in the contests.

Ohio invite results.
