Durden doesn't care too much about duel meets. His main focus is and has always been NCAAs.

Diving, yeah a long time issue for Cal swimming. Was briefly optimistic with the new dive coach but then he quit for health reasons only to hear he's coaching elsewhere. Strange.

Swimmers will be motivated to make their NCAA cuts at Pac12s but bc they don't have their Q times yet they'll have to taper (maybe partially)for Pac12s. Then they'll either have to stretch their taper or build back in a short time and taper again for NCAAs. It's less than ideal. Ideally you want to already have your Qtimes and build up to and taper for NCAAs. Durden is arguably the best coach in college swimming, maybe even all of swimming, plus he's got Dave Marsh helping so I'm sure he's got a plan in place to maximize our potential.

Agreed, Whitley swimming only one event, and Carr not swimming backstroke were huge factors, as those absences, alone, made a significant difference in the score. But, there were also other swimmers swimming 'secondary' events, the relays weren't stacked, etc. This was not the Bears' strongest lineup, by a long shot. As Paly noted, Durden doesn't care that much about dual meets. Lack of diving points sucks. But, diving has always been really weak for the Bears - both men's and women's teams. (Especially compared to Stanford, and many of the other 'top' swimming and diving schools.) The Bears are gearing up for Pac-12s (those swimmers that haven't yet qualified for NCAAs) and, ultimately, NCAAs. They will be just fine come NCAAs.

Stanford has an age group diving program that draws talent from all over. i am not aware of any equivalent at Cal.

For those info updates, we are entirely dependent upon the generosity of unpaid *Occasional volunteers, like you and me.

*Occasional since we've lost Ursus Arctos Californicus, whose time-consuming efforts we simply took for granted for YEARS.

UAC is a HOF poster here. Many of us wonder what caused his/her demise on this board.

I had posted previously that I thought it coincided with a number of people criticizing UAC for posting about stanford recruits. UAC posted about all recruits but there were a number of highly ranked swimmers choosing Stanford and think it upset people. I tried to reach out privately to him but haven't heard from UAC. Hoping it is not related to covid too with him gone now almost 2 years. Will miss him now that the pac-12 'ship is now here!

Cal senior and global studies major Robin Neumann has been named the Pac-12 Scholar-Athlete of the Year for women's swimming & diving, the conference announced Friday night. She becomes the third Golden Bear to receive the honor, following Rachael Acker in 2016 and Caitlin Leverenz in 2013.

Neumann, who owns a 3.95 GPA, adds to her long list of academic honors attained at Cal. She is a four-time CSCAA Scholar All-American, a three-time Pac-12 Academic Honor Roll selection and a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-American, as well as a member of the Phi Beta Kappa honor society.

The Pac-12 Scholar-Athlete of the Year award, which is presented in each of the 24 sports the Pac-12 sponsors, was established to honor collegiate student-athletes that are standouts both academically and in their sports discipline.

*All times pulled from the USA Swimming Database, using each swimmer's highest ranked event*

With today being the last day of the Pac 12 meet, here's the current W NCAA roster with times within the top 35 guaranteed to earn selection:

Ivey (A cut, 200 free), Stadden (A cut, 200 back), Polonsky (#8, 400 IM), Wilson (#14, 400 IM), Spitz (#23, 500 free), Motekaitis (#23, 200 free), Fabian (#32, 500 free), Kragh (#23, 100 fly), Klinker (#11, 200 fly), Cook (#20, 200 fly), DiMeco (#35, 1650) ... 11 selected as of now.

NCAA selection is usually top 36-40 in each event. Rajic (T-38, 100 Breast) and McEnroe (#40, 400 IM) are on the bubble. Ideally be that Garcia (#45/46, 50/100 free), Gantriis (#51, 50 free), E. Riley (T-57, 50 free), and Neumann (T-54, 200 free) can make it to fill out relays.

Disappointed that Neumann didnt make it in the 200 free. Think 3 0f the previous yrs she was an A scorer in this event at the NCAA champions!

It appears most of lady bears including relay only bears chose to rest for NCAA instead Pac12 (except for maybe some freshmen). Not only Isabel Ivey could win 200 free this year, but she might be able to qualify for Paris 2024.

Roster

Lizzy Cook
Sarah DiMeco
Fanni Fabian
Isabel Ivey
Rachel Klinker
Mia Kragh
Annika McEnroe
Mia Motekaitis
Leah Polonsky
Ema Rajic
Ayla Spitz
Isabelle Stadden
Alicia Wilson

Relay Only
- Emma Davidson
- Elise Garcia
- Eloise Riley

Cal had five of the twelve freshmen swimmers make the 16 member NCAA team. Is that considered good? I do believe that 8 or 9 scored points in meets for the Bears.
