This team is JUST on the brink! They just don't know how to finish it. That coach has got to go, but reading Knowleton's message, it doesn't seem like he's ready to fire anyone. He understands how frustrating it is, he says.
i have now watched all the pac 12 teams. our setter (s) are the worse and our defense and passing are the worse of all the pac 12 teams. Hopefully getting a much better setter would help. maeder is inconsistent and the hitters have to adjust when her sets are too low or off. Better players would certainly help. Utah beat USC by digging better and moving the ball offensively. Cal has too many out of system passes and defense is poor. teams serve at Leah cause she is a poor receiver and passer. i would have to say Grote may be the only player that could start at any other pac 12 school. We can fire the coach cause he is not able to get good players. The freshman are starting and playing. the other players not so. setter needs to be much better and she is playing and starting her second year. Cal has only won 3 sets in league play. just saw savannah Rennie. she is a volunteer assistant coach for USC. great for her. former Cal middle blocker.HateRed said:

He should like Sam Crosson because he hired Sam in December 2018.ncbears said:
I don't know what's in store for next year - but I talked to Knowlton about volleyball briefly when he was in Boulder. He said he like Crosson "but he needs to win some games"
And Crosson's team has not won any games since then. Heck, the team has barely won any sets.
unfortunately leah is a very weak serve receiver and as a defender in back court not so much. maybe they want a big in back court but if the passing is not good, leah cant back court spike anyway. or maybe they just don't have a good defender, since they don't play anyone else besides the starting libero desa and. jensen is usually back row and setter and better passer and defender. maeder does same and is fair in defense and passing. tough for rotation. dejardin receives and digs better but still young freshman for outside hitter to be consistent. sanseibear, does cal have any 2023 committed players yet.? probably not till december early signing.SanseiBear said:
Cal won the first two sets today, then got reverse swept by Utah! Leah Schmidt got targeted by Utah on their serves, and of the 10 Cal receive errors, she had 8. I rather have Lydia Grote play 6 rotations and have Leah be substituted by a receive specialist on the two rotations after she serves.
Mahalo, lodebear, for your comments. I thought I heard today's announcer mentioned the incoming class was an outstanding group without mentioning names, but maybe I just wanted to interpret something positive about WVB.LodeBear said:unfortunately leah is a very weak serve receiver and as a defender in back court not so much. maybe they want a big in back court but if the passing is not good, leah can't back court spike anyway. or maybe they just don't have a good defender, since they don't play anyone else besides the starting libero desa and. jensen is usually back row and setter and better passer and defender. maeder does same and is fair in defense and passing. tough for rotation. dejardin receives and digs better but still young freshman for outside hitter to be consistent. sanseibear, does cal have any 2023 committed players yet.? probably not till december early signing.SanseiBear said:

Fortunately, I can watch our hometown team (Hawaii Rainbow Wahine) play smart volleyball even if they're slightly undersized. Hopefully, Cal can return to the upper rung of the Pac-12 in a few years.
Have a Happy Holiday Season!
