I've always liked the home field here but parking is a problem. How many games did S 71 and others attend/

I've heard from rumblings softball construction is supposed to start this summer on the new stadium. Can someone confirm?

I imagine this would be a great boost to the attendance. I for one can't wait.

Parking is a nightmare. I've always thought a new baseball and/or softball facility within Tilden Park would be at least .attempted.
Jackie Robinson Stadium is on land owned by the VA.I realize it would be difficult working with the counties of Alameda and Contra Costa, but a shot.

Ilioke where they are. Great venue. But no parking. What good is a new stadium if there is no parking.

Interesting news! A close friend involved in the travel ball scene mentioned that the Cal softball camps will be relocated to different venues this summer. It seems the long-awaited stadium renovation is finally underway, six years after it was initially announced

I reached out to my contact at UC Berkeley Capital Strategies (they are overseeing the project). I periodically ask him for updates.

Here is his reply this morning:

"Thanks for reaching out. Work on the Final EIR (Environmental Impact Report) leading to its certification is still underway. While we had hoped that might take place before the end of this academic year, it is looking more likely to take place sometime later this summer. After the EIR is certified, the project can be approved, and then we will be able to share more about when the construction work will take place.

Again, thank you for your continued interest and support. The environmental review process can be daunting, to say the least, even when it is improving the site on which our softball team currently already practices and competes, for their continued use.

We are delighted by the team's performance this year and are very much eager to begin work on improving their facility."

Note: I followed up his email with another one asking about parking.

I'll ask a dumb question which I am good at. Where is the new stadium being built?

I believe that it's on the same site but the stadium will be facing in the opposite direction. This is the story I heard quite some time ago so it could have changed. Cal Fanatic can you fill in the picture a little bit for the fans?
GO BEARS!

Apparently, that has changed over the course of many months. From project report:

"The renovated softball field would be in the same location as the existing field and would remain oriented to the northeast with home plate at the southwest corner of the site. The outfield fences would be extended to 190 feet down to the right and left baselines, and to 220 feet to the centerfield to comply with NCAA standards."

SFCB72-thank you for gathering some up-to-date information. Is home plate going to remain where it is now? I remember that it was going to be drastically altered. It doesn't sound like it now. If they are ready to begin construction, is it projected to be ready for next softball season? We need it so that we can host a regional next
year with lights, superior press box, improved dressing rooms for both teams and parking facilities. GO BEARS!

See above about the EIR. That will determine the construction timetable.
