Through 3 rotations, Cal is not hitting as well as they hope to.
49.175 on vault
Recovered for a 49.400 on Bars - even with Jordan Kane falling
But, Beam was .... not good. 48.875 with Kane falling again (and commentator thinks Kane has some injury) and Lauzon with an uncharacteristic low score. Lowest event score this year on Beam.
Still not many 9.9 scores - none on beam. Cesario and Frazier with 9.925 and 9.9 on bars. Cesario with 9.9 on vault.

Cal leads 147.450 to Clemson's 147.200

Cal to Floor and Clemson to Beam to finish the meet.
Kane is being subbed out - with Keunke taking her floor spot.

No worries.
Four Bears score 9.9 on Floor for 49.475 - top score for the young season. (Wlliams, Keuneke, Frazier and Lauzon)

Cal wins 196.925 to Clemson's 196.225. First ACC dual meet win.
Cesario has top AA with 39.475.

But, that team score is again less than 197 - and Cal needs to get its team scores building.
There were some good exhibitions - and the Bears responded okay to Kane's issues. (Beam was not great).

Only saw parts of the meet. Kane looked like she was nearly in tears. Hope it isn't a long-term injury. Time to see how deep this team is

I just missed the first rotation. Btw, the male commentator from Michigan was pretty good in noting where deductions might come from and explaining why there would be deduction - particularly on Lauzon's beam routine.
The Kane/Howell hug after the beam was long and comforting.
I think there is depth depending on Kane's injury.
Keuneke really stepped up on floor in Kane's absence.
But, we have yet to see the scores we saw last year on a consistent basis from Lauzon and Frazier and Williams.

I don't have a technical background in gymnastics, but I can't fathom how Mya Lauzon received a 9.65 on the balance beam. I thought that she had a significant balance check, but I thought that the rest of her routine looked good, and she had a perfect dismount (landing). Without the abnormal wobble in the middle, I would think that her level of difficulty would merit a 9.85 to 9.90. Why the two-tenths to three-tenths of a point deduction? I have been watching Cal gymnastics for 3-4 years and I cannot remember a similar call.

On the same event, a Clemson African American gymnast had three balance checks early in her program and the tv announcer commented that she was struggling. Her score ended up being a 9.80. In other words, the judges did not deduct much for her balance issues. What was the difference between the two? Please try to explain in layman's terms. Thank you.

The commentator said that Lauzon's "wobble" or "balance check" was such that she did not complete a required combination element - two skills back to back without hesitation in between.
