2025 Softball Schedule - California Golden Bears Athletics

Cal plays 22 games before AAC conference competition. The Bears open next Friday with two Big Ten teams, Minnesota & Maryland. Five former Pac 9 teams will play us in the initial three weekends. The only two that Cal will not play are Arizona & UCLA. Obviously, Stanford is on our AAC schedule with three games in Palo Alto.

I think that Cal fans will be able to figure out quickly whether the softball team will be competitive this season.
In other words, will we be winners, losers or a .500 team. I scouted the four teams for next weekend already (play Maryland twice).

Btw, how will we watch the Bears this season?
GO BEARS!

I'm excited to see this offense in action. Easily the most dynamic and impressive lineup we'll have since 2012.

Pitching will need to step up. There's no way we'll be a 500 team. I could see this team clear 100 homeruns.

S71,...so how were you able to scout our first opponents??
And so what do you think of them as far as their pitching and hitting??
(I am planning to go see the Kajikawa next week...)

CyBear77-I can't get into that right at this moment because I have set aside this time to write up the women' s basketball game tomorrow vs Pitt.

All I did was visit Maryland, Minnesota, Utah & ASU softball websites to see how much of their hitting and pitching personnel that they return from last season, etc. I'll try to address some of this during the upcoming week if I can.

2025 Kajikawa Classic

Today is Wednesday, February 7th, and Cal has still not announced anything regarding the softball season starting on Friday morning. I investigated and all I can see is that live stats are supposed to be available for all of the games. Normally, the games are televised or data-streamed by Flo Sports (Softball) or someone else. I have yet to find out about that for Cal but ASU games will be online c/o ESPN+

Beware that the Arizona times listed for the games are one hour a head of PST. The opener vs Minnesota is listed on the schedule above at 11:30 am MST but will be starting at 10:30 am PST for us.

I would imagine that the Bears will travel to the Kajikawa Classic tomorrow. GO BEARS!

Most of the bios aren't updated either. Feels very strange to me....the season starts in 2 days.

Cal Opens 2025 Campaign In Tempe - California Golden Bears Athletics

Here it finally is-the kick-off article for Cal softball 2025. It states that all of the games will be live-streamed but does not disclose the source of it. The live stats and the live stream are not disclosed on the Cal softball website. Does anyone know how it will be done at 10:30 am on Friday?

"It states that all of the games will be live-streamed"

The article clearly states that the Live Stream will not be available ("N/A") for all but the Arizona State game. The host is responsible for providing the streams and ASU has decided that only their games will be shown. Cal has no control over the situation.

Today-Cal has added live stats to the scheduled games plus livestream for the final game w/ ASU on Sunday.

Excited to see this team in action.

Minnesota lost their best player to transfer and graduated their two top pitchers. A solid program but we'll be the better team in the opening match.

Their best player, Jess Oakland, was from Saint Francis HS in Mountain View and she hit 20 HRs as a freshman. Her batting average was .452. Where did she transfer?

I'm watching Maryland at ASU right now. The Sun Devils are all over the Terrapins, 7-1, on 7 hits.

Maryland has 5 pitchers (4 returners) but their best hitter graduated. ASU has huge freshmen class that has looked impressive tonight. They also have their three top hitters back. Maryland brought their 3rd pitcher in to finish the B4th.

Utah is also missing their top pitchers from the last couple of years. Several top hitters are gone, too.

Team is stacked with hitters. Any idea of the status of Anders?
Schroeder71

Mia Phillips homers in her initial college AB. She is from Hollister HS in the CCS. Acacia Anders and Mika Lee are the only two seniors in the regular lineup. Phillips has a good shot at starting next season in place of Anders.

Anyone else having problems with Live Stats? My version has not gone to the T3rd yet with the top of Cal's batting order due up.

It's ok now.

These team can hit. 4th homer of the game

In the B4th, the Golden Gophers have the bags juiced with two walks and a single with one out. Reimers has going to three ball counts on almost all of the hitters this inning. Fortunately, she got a called strike three on a 3-2 count for her only out.

Tinley Easton - Softball - University of Minnesota Athletics

Grand slam hit off of frosh relief pitcher, De Nava, on her second batter. Welcome to Div I softball, Miranda. CF, here comes the high scoring games that I was speculating might be commonplace this season.

Welcome to D1! A 2 out, 2 strike grandslam of De Nava brings Minnesota within 4. 8-4

Pond walks and Phillips triples with one out for a ninth run. Then, the #8 & #9 hitters cannot get her home. Why didn't Chelsea Spencer pinch hit there?

Why? Why? For god sake...this is only the 1st game of the season. Maybe she wants to build their confidence.

Yeah, it's the first game of the season. That's why. Give your players reps…as any coach would do!

7 straight down for De Nava. 5 of them being strikeouts. Have to love that response by your youngster.

Now down 6-2 in the 4th. We're onto pitcher #3....
Schroeder71
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Orange & McDade getting roughed up and yielding lots of runs. This is exactly the situation that I was wary about that other teams would be able to outscore Cal. Jen Deering has evidently not been able to help them change something or add a new pitch to take either of them to the next level. McDade walked two in succession and was replaced by Teperson. She got the final out on a line drive. Five of the six pitchers have been used already today with only the other freshman remaining in the bull pen.

ASU got three runs off of Shearer in two innings on a homerun and a two-run double off of the CF fence. The Sun Devils got four runs off of Maryland's second pitcher on another homerun and double. ASU 7, Maryland 1.
CalFanatic
How long do you want to ignore this user?
The Bears will have 8-9-1 up in the 7th. Currently down 6-3 after a Pond solo shot.

Time to battle! This would be a pretty bad loss. No way to sugarcoat it. Go Bears
CalFanatic
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Bears fall 6-3.

This was probably good to appropriately set expectations for the season. If we aren't hitting we are probably losing some weird games.
Schroeder71
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Teperson pitched well with 3 2/3 hitless innings. She walked one and hit a batter while striking out two. It's hard to tell how well someone did without seeing the action. Hopefully, today indicates that the two seniors and heralded freshman look to be able to pitch competitively. The other two that pitched today got hit harder than last season if I can remember accurately. I wonder if the coaching staff plans on pitching the other frosh?

This Kajikawa Classic might tell Cal fans a great deal about the potential of this season. The defense and the three doubles, a triple & five HRs are the positives from the opening day split. Does anyone know why Acacia Anders is out and for how long? It looks like Mia Phillips should be in the everyday lineup from today. GO BEARS!
